People not accepting matches based on character choice seems like a big problem

I swear every time I queue up, I have to match into multiple people before one accepts. My connection is really good by the way (Wired, Fiber, 4 digit download speed, and I don’t live in the middle of nowhere), so it seems like it’s just because “Ugh, I hate ____.” This happens no matter which character I’m labbing too, though it gets worse depending on the character. The worst was when I was trying out Sokka and Toph, and it would take like 5-10 matches to get an accept most of the time. This is a huge problem for the matchmaking experience. Hopefully, a ranked mode at launch wouldn’t have this issue of letting people filter for the matchups they prefer.

Giving people the option to completely avoid matchups they don’t like is bad matchmaking design. Some people will go out of their way to avoid playing literally every matchup in the game that isn’t super favorable for them. Exhibit A: Tyler1 in SF6 where he blocks everyone who is playing a character he doesn’t like fighting. At least there he isn’t interrupting people’s queues constantly though. Seems like the meta play with the current system is going to be idling in the lab with whoever the least controversial character is to bait people into accepting only to jumpscare them with Azula.

P.S. If you refuse to play against half the roster, play a different game. If you are instead just super invested in whatever you are labbing and don’t want to accept matches because of it, you can lab without being in the queue.

How realistic is another DLC year past year 1 DLC?

I see everybody talking about how this will probably end up as a discord fighter and that fighting games don’t have longevity in general. I could be wrong, I’m not familiar with FG.

But I also see people talking about what kind of DLC should be added after year 1 DLC.

So my question is, how realistic is it that we will have more years of DLC after the first year? How does it compare to other FG?

I suck at fighting toph holy sh*t

My friend plays a lot of toph and azula, and beats the crap out of me with both. With azula I can accept that it's a skill difference in terms of fundamentals (aside from jump 5C), but against toph I just run into so many things that seem unfair, yet I haven't seen anyone complaining about them so I feel like I'm just missing something.

  1. Seismic Sense - this move feels terrible to play against. I can flow or block it, yes, but that leaves me further away than when I started so it feels like I'm running on a treadmill. I get frustrated, he goes in and combos me.

  2. idk the name of it but that one screen-wide move with insane super armour - pretty self-explanatory. This move is functionally a better super as supers can be cancelled by attacks. This cannot. I've had situations where I've hit her 3+ times without stopping the move. It feels like jumping against toph is an instant-lose button because they can always pull out this move and I'm dead before I hit the ground.

If anyone has any tips on how to beat this small blind girl that would be great. I play mostly Zuko and Katara.

Odds of dlc for non show chaeacters?

The list is very short, but with the new movie coming out odds of characters from there or hell even the comics? Or do you think it'll be strictly characters from the shows?

What playing azula feels like

At least now I know if i'm rushing or dragging

How to counter Azula's air dash?

Im struggling trying to anti air her. Out of all characters she seems the easiest to be able to jump in and get you in a blockstring and the fact that theres no reliable anti air or air blocking makes her a nightmare

Legacy Stick / Pad support

Something this game is missing which will really stop a lot of people playing is the lack of support of older sticks and gamepads.

People keep sticks across multiple generations, this is the stick I've used on PS4 and PS5 fighting games but Avatar doesn't recognise it.

From what I've played of the beta on pad, for me this would definitely be a stick game. I prefer GG and many anime fighters on pad and MvC and SF on stic. The speed of which you need to flow cancel air combos means for me this would have to be a stick game.

I don't suppose there's any word on them sorting this as a lot of the hardcore fighting game people I know are still using PS4 stuff for PS5 unless they've been forced to change.

My Experience With Every Player Base

For context I literally only got to play on the last day so I'm still learning, but this is the general gist of what every character felt like.

Out of Curiosity is anyone else getting Cat & Mouse lobbies?

Like I get maybe like 4 out of 10 different people that actually fight the rest are just running away sometimes not even attacking back I haven't seen anyone mention it just weird.

Completely new to fighting games, is playing with just a keyboard going to limit my ability to enjoy the game?

Playing on PC, and totally uninitiated into the genre. What's the preferred setup? Do most people use console style controllers or fighting game specific peripherals?
