Is this a bunch/heard/gaggle or whatever the correct name is of seals of some sort? Something else perhaps?

Found this site in what appears to be in the middle of nowhere in China. There's a large "X" that seems to have been scratched/dug into/I don't know in the earth/sand/whatever (a helicopter landing area perhaps?). What is this and why is it here? Coordinates: 33°56'40.70"N82°04'49.17"E
