Looking for advice to replace 3 PayPal Debits (Costco/Grocery) for 3-Person Player Setup | $2k-$3k Costco Spend

Hey everyone, looking for some advice on our next moves. We have a 3-person setup (myself, wife, and 19yo kid) and we're trying to figure out our strategy for the next 3–5 months once we finish our current Minimum Spend Requirements (MSR).

With the upcoming PayPal Debit nerf hitting in August, we need a strong replacement for our massive Costco and grocery spend.

The Profiles

  • Income: $220,000 (Combined)
  • FICO Scores: Me: 820–830 | Kid: ~750
  • Oldest Account: 13 Years
  • Chase 5/24 Status: Me: 4/24 | Wife: 6/24 | Kid: 3/24
  • Business Cards: Yes, open to them.

Average Monthly Spend

  • Groceries/Costco: $2,000 – $3,000 (Mainly Costco)
  • Dining: $100
  • Gas: $200
  • Non-Category: $2,000 – $3,000
  • Travel: Mostly hotels for kid's sports tournaments (15–20 nights/year, within 3-hour drive). Also 4–5 round-trips a year on Breeze Airways for the college kid.

Current Card Inventory

2x Chase Sapphire Reserve (May 2026 - finishing MSR)

1x Capital One Venture X

2x Chase Sapphire Preferred (2024/2025 - planning to close 1 or both)

1x Robinhood Gold (Current 3% catch-all)

1x Chase OG Freedom (Sock-drawered)

1x Chase Ink Cash (Gas only)

1x Marriott Boundless (Early 2026)

1x Citi Costco (Gas only)

1x Hilton Surpass (Kept for Gold Status)

1x Fidelity 2% (Old catch-all)

1x Kroger Card

Discover It (2025)

Capital One Savor (2025)

Capital One Venture (May 2026 - finishing MSR)

Note: 3 PayPal Debits currently being used for Costco/Groceries, but looking to replace.

The Dilemmas & Options We Are Considering

Right now, we are swamped finishing the MSR on two Sapphire Reserves and one Venture card. Once that's done, we need to pivot.

  1. The CSP 3% vs RH Gold 3% Question: Is the 3% Ultimate Rewards on online groceries via the Chase Sapphire Preferred actually better than the 3% flat cash back on the Robinhood Gold if we want to target Hyatt transfers for sports travel?
  2. Option A (Do Nothing): Just lazy-man it and use the Robinhood Gold for 3% cash back at Costco.
  3. Option B (The Easy Button): Apply for the U.S. Bank Altitude Reserve (USBAR). Use Apple Pay/Mobile Wallet at Costco for 3x points (effectively 4.5% back toward travel via Real-Time Rewards).
  4. Option C (More Work / Higher Yield): Apply for the Bilt Obsidian Mastercard. Buy $25k in Costco Shop Cards online to trigger the 3x grocery/wholesale category, giving an effective 4.33% back in high-value Bilt/Hyatt points.
  5. Option D (The Gift Card Grind): Grab another Chase Ink Business Cash. Hit Office Depot/Staples during fee-free Visa Gift Card weeks, buy VGCs at 5x UR, and use them physically at Costco. Similar to the old PayPal method but more tedious.
  6. Side Note: Also considering the U.S. Bank Cash+ strictly to lock down 5% on Utilities and Gym.

What path makes the most sense for our spend profile and goals? Open to any and all suggestions!
