Would you move to Myrtle Beach for $3,500/month?
I received an opportunity to move to Myrtle Beach and work at a Brazilian steakhouse restaurant, and I would really appreciate some honest advice from people who live in the US or have gone through something similar.
Right now I live in Brazil and work as a public employee. I make around R$7,200/month before taxes, and around R$5,000 after deductions. I also finance an apartment, which costs me about R$3,100/month, so after basic living expenses there is not much left.
Recently I got an offer to move to Myrtle Beach to work in a restaurant. I already work with BBQ/grilling here in Brazil during my free time, so the job itself would not be difficult for me.
The offer is:
- $3,500/month
- housing assistance for the first 2 months
- flight ticket paid by the restaurant owner
My main concerns are:
- What costs should I know before moving?
- How much is rent in Myrtle Beach these days?
- What taxes would I pay on that salary?
- What kind of visa would I need to legally work there?
- Is this a crazy decision financially speaking?
I’m trying to understand if this could actually improve my quality of life or if I’m underestimating the costs and risks involved.
I appreciate any advice or experiences. Thank you everyone.
