AITA for stalking my friend because he lied
It all started when I (20), my friends R (18), C (21), and M (19) wanted to invite C's sister to hang out with all of us. M doesnt like C's sister because he doesn't like the drama that she supposedly brings with her to the hangouts. We pick up C's sister to play Cards Against Humanity ™️. We get to our hangout spot, and M gets a call from his friend L about a broken down car and needing his help. So we go back to my place, swap to my car, and M speeds off. We all felt like he was lying because he was silent and obviously upset and not communicating it once we picked her up, so we went to his house and saw his car there when he was supoosed to be going 2 hours out of town. So C and R called him and they recieved no answer, so they texted him while I called him again. He ended up sharing his location with C and it was an hour away and he ened up driving his dads car. So when he sent his location, we believed him and felt terrible after, he was upset and called us assholes.
The *very next day* he messaged me that I would be very very upset at him, and met with C saying that C would be MAD. So he talked to C and admitted that he lied, and L logged into M account and used his location to fake being an hour away. M was at home, in bed, on call with L the entire time, and still calling us the assholes and making us feel bad even though there he was lying the entire time.
So AITA for accusing M of lying, going to his house to see if his car was still there, and just not believing him.. he still called us assholes even after admitting he was lying so i genuinely dont know if we are or not.
Edit: jusr for clarification we did ask him if it was okay to invite C's sister, he said yes and we did check in on him multiple times verbally and through text because he did seem upset and he insisted he was fine. Originally after he left, we called him to make sure he was making it there okay because he seemed anxious about the drive and we wanted to support him, he ignored the call. But, because we had the doubt that he was telling the truth- because hes a compulsive liar and lies about a lot of things in general, he was quiet, descreetly texting someone (L), and then leaving right after C pointed out he seemed upset- we pulled up to his place to hopefully get rid of the worry that he was lying, but when we saw his car was there it obviously didnt get rid of that worry and honestly made it worse. Yes, we couldve handled it better i do agree with that, and i honestly couldve worded the whole story better and less exaggerated
