Ego power+ Nexus powerstation
Hello everyone,
I just came out a power outage that lasted from Tuesday morning to Thursday evening due to a tornado that wrecked thru two states.
I lost all my food so I'm looking for a solution to prevent this in the future. I've live in an apartment so getting a gas generator will not work. I have access to rewards points where I can order stuff for free.
I looked up power stations and one of them is the Ego nexus power station that includes (4) 5ah batteries. I don't currently own any other tools that use ego brand. Everything yard tool i own is black and decker sadly. I do the yard work at my parents place so i own many tools. My mower is gas, but all my other tools are electric powered by black decker batteries.
I have few other choices for power stations but they require more points. My other choices are Champion 1638 power station or the Yard Force 2400W Portable Power Station.
So, Im leaning towards the ego for a few reasons. The big reason is it's modular and I live in an apartment with no elevator that is about 3 flight of stairs from the first floor.
I got to thinking if the power goes out for multiple days again how would I charge the Champion or yard force unit. I would have to lug those entire units down 3 flights of stairs everytime they discharge into my car and go somewhere to charge it. This sounds like a headache. Lugging batteries to a charger elsewhere sounds like less of a headache.
With that said lf I get the ego unit I could take the invidual batteries to either work or someone else house and fast charge them. That sounds way easier than keeping a non modular unit running during a extended outage. I would have to carry the other unit up and down 3 flights of stairs everytime it needs charging.
Now I did mention my other yard tools are black decker and my lawn mower is gas. I been thinking of going electric mower for years so I could mow eariler in the morning with something more quiet.
With everything I said does it sound like a bad idea to get the older Ego nexus power station with (4) 5 ah batteries included for free or should I look at the other two units I can get with my reward points.
Im thinking of buying the stand alone ego fast battery charger so I can fast charge in my car or someone else house. In the future I will be adding a ego lawn mower to my tool lineup so that will be another battery. I plan to get better batteries as the time goes on and i understand that they are expensive but getting the unit for free is already saving me money.
Once again I will be getting the first generation nexus and (4) 5 ah batteries for free with my points. I am not spending any money yet on this setup, but will purchase the fast charger soon after getting the nexus power station and the mower will be purchased in the future.
Is the ego nexus worth it for free. I plan to run only my refrigerator and maybe 1 led light on it during a power outage. I don't need solar to charge it as getting enough sunlight is my apartment is hard already.
