Asking too much? Or just enough to not breathe Asbestos and Victorian dust?
Are we being ridiculously over the top here, or is this actually a sensible asbestos-related hill to... errr die on?
We bought a 1800s house in dire need of work that got an ancient boiler (Stelrad 'Ideal Concord CX' - listed as containing ACMs https://www.miketheboilerman.com/asbestos-risk-in-boilers.html ) to remove. It’s already been professionally disconnected, but it’s still bolted to a cement pad, and there may be ACMs in the boiler itself, the seals/gaskets, the pad, and the pipe ( flue) running up the chimney breast.
Our goal is simple: remove all and eventually use that chimney breast safely for a kitchen extractor/cooker hood (ideally not seasoning dinner with asbestos fibers.)
We're having trouble getting quotes for:
NPU enclosure for the chimney works
full boiler and flue removal/disposal
minimal-disassembly of boiler if possible
removal of the cement pad and any adjoining ACMs
ideally full flue/chimney removal without opening up the whole house like a tinned sardine.
Are we being unreasonable asking for all this and should we just give up on the stove on the chimney breast idea entirely?
