I can see that it has some fibres in it but it definitely isn’t wood. It feels light and cold.
When I found it, I brought it home because I thought it looked and felt a bit like a bone, so I thought it might have been from a sea creature of some kind (which might sound stupid, I know. I don’t know much about sea creatures). I hadn’t looked at it closely or thought much about it until today.
If it is asbestos, is it likely that I’ve harmed myself by having it in my room for a while, handling it a few times, and looking at it closely today?

Ballpark figure for removing a few AIB panels?

I’ve been getting quotes to remove some asbestos insulation boards from our garage and the quotes are quite insane.

There’s a relatively small amount concentrated on a wooden beam and a single panel above the garage door.

I’ve had a few quotes come in from £4-6k and that it will take 1 - 2 days!

I had a lone company quote £880 but not sure they are fully licensed.

Do these prices seem right?!

Was removing an old bathtub panel, which snapped - I believe this is asbestos

I am doing some light renovations in our 1930s house. The bathroom is original to the house. I was wanted to replace a terrible looking bathtub board and as I was doing it it snapped. It immediately looked like asbestos to me, I got the both bits out of the house, closed off the bathroom door. I had to carry the pieces through house to get them outside. Googling it appears to be asbesos cement board, which is not that dangerous as not a lot of asbestos is in it, but I am still panicking. Can you please advise what should I do now? Unfortunately, can't get any specialists into the house as it is late now.

Can't post photos for some reason....

Here are the links to the photos, hopefully this works

Integral garage

I have asbestos cement boards in my integral garage (lab tested) - some damage caused by prior owner as you can see in the picture (nails, holes cut, nothing hanging down)

I want to use it as a home gym. Would the consensus be that painting/treating is enough, or full removal?

Advice needed regarding garage ceiling - UK

I've recently moved house. I've been storing stuff in the garage and have spent a fair bit of time in their sorting out boxes etc over the last few weeks. Yesterday I noticed there's a crack in the ceiling. I'm pretty sure it's white asbestos. I'm guessing the crack has been there for a while. My question is how risky is this? Will the stuff I'm storing have to be thrown away? I will get a specialist company out but I'm just trying to figure out what is salvageable. Thanks.

Could this be asbestos

Me and my partner have rented a flat been here for 5 months with this hole in the ceiling by the front door due to a water leak from the flat above. The landlord and estate agents have been useless in getting this fixed. However today it dawned on me that this could contain asbestos?? The building was built in 1929

Parquet floor?

Undertaking a kitchen renovation and discovered these parquet tiles under some laminate flooring. Am I right in guessing the adhesive used on wooden blocks is likely to contain bitumen?

Vermiculite contamination?

Has anybody been involved in the testing of vermiculite for asbestos? A place I visit often has several large potted plants and the soil surfaces are covered with large vermiculite chippings. Just trying to quantify the health risk, if any.

Asbestos cement barn roof

Hi all,

We have a fairly large barn with an asbestos cement roof. An asbestos survey we had a few years ago concluded it was in OK condition and that we could leave it be.

Nice then I’ve noticed some slight deterioration, and in particular a section of roof where some sort of mud or fungus has appeared on the inside surface (see last photos). I’m concerned that this debris is falling on items below. Unsure what it is or whether it would contain significant asbestos fibres.

So my question to experts is whether you’d look into this further, or leave it be for now?

Thank you!

Two years ago we scraped artex ceilings flat ready for plastering, now we are worried for our health

Hi all

So two years ago me and my girlfriend moved into our first home where every ceiling in the house contained this artex coated ceiling. We hated the look of it so the first job of the house was to get rid of it

To help with costs we scraped all of the bumpy parts off ourselves with two others which took about 3 to 4 hours. During this time there was a lot of dust and debris falling all over the house

I can’t remember if we had masks and even if we did it would have been the Covid style ones.

I’ve read about asbestos since and it has us worried for future health implications because of this task. I’ve also read it’s mostly long term occupational exposure that causes issues and even then it isn’t guaranteed, but not exposure is a good one

Just wondering if anyone has any advice, the house was constructed in 1998/1999 which was just before the asbestos ban

Removed Asbestos Flue Pipe

During renovating our home, my partner’s dad removed an asbestos flue pipe on his own. He wore a mask and gloves, but no other PPE. He removed the pieces afterwards and hoovered.

We then proceeded to continue work in that room, removing an old boiler, and brickwork.

How likely is it we were exposed to fibres and what should we do?

Am I screwed?

This fell out the ceiling when I was taking out the air vent to clean it. At first I thought it was old fiberglass, but now I’m concerned for asbestos. Can’t tell what it is but it got all over my kitchen floor. House was built in 1905 in US-NY, has been renovated since. I bagged a sample for testing if necessary. There does seem to be little pieces of spray foam mixed in there too.

Condition of garage ceiling

Hi I did make a post a while back about this ceiling, it’s double stacked with a asbestos corrugated cement roof on top, not 100% on what this material is but it has been painted to seal it. Might have a survey done.

Has received a few knocks post paint, but I don’t see any sort of damage not sure what constitutes as ‘disturbance’ does this look safe?

There is some dark patches that from smoke incense is occasionally used inside the garage.

Is this asbestos?

This is inside the building I work in. Does this look like asbestos insulation ?

Can I actually remove cement sheets myself?

There is a lot of conflicting advice about what homeowners can legally do with bonded cement (like garage roofs or garden sheds). While the HSE guidelines allow for non licensed removal in specific circumstances, the disposal costs at local tips are skyrocketing in 2026. Who has successfully navigated the hazardous waste booking system at their local council recently?

What’s the most common place asbestos still turns up?

I know it was used in a lot of older construction, but I’m curious which areas of a house people most often find it in now during surveys or refurb work. Seems like ceilings and insulation come up a lot but not sure what else is typical.

Is this asbestos?

Sadly only realised after putting downlights in.
Could it be artex skimmed over? Seems to be a white substance not panted.
In the cleaner hole it’s the thin white line between the two skim layers?
UK house built in 1958. No other rooms with it as they were all textured wallpaper.
There is the original plasterboard at the top.
First photo was where the original light was removed.
