Surveyor presumed asbestos cement soffits: would you test before removal?
Hey everyone, interested in your thoughts.
We had an asbestos survey after buying our 1960s house. The soffits weren’t sampled because the surveyor found them very hard and couldn’t easily get his chisel into them. He therefore recorded them as strongly presumed asbestos cement.
We’d eventually like to have them removed and replaced, but my concern is that we don’t actually have confirmation that they’re cement rather than AIB.
Would you get further testing done first, or simply explain to contractors that they’re presumed asbestos cement but unsampled and see what they require?
For context, a panel on the garage porch was sampled, contained white asbestos and was identified by the surveyor as asbestos cement.
Interested in what others who’ve dealt with asbestos soffits would do.
