Frame replacement/recall denied by dealership multiple times
Looking for advice for a friend. Original owner of a 2008 Tacoma that has 160k KM's. He was sent the frame recall notices 3 separate times, back when that was happening, and each time the dealership said "well, there aren't any holes" and denied the frame replacement. The rust was starting to get bad on the lower side of the "C" channel and now it is very bad. Should they not have just done the replacement? Is there any recourse for them denying him a new frame even though he was asking for one and could see the rust? It's really a shame because otherwise the truck is in amazing shape. He's been on top of all maintenance over the years.
If that's a dead end, what's likely the cost to repair the frame? Are there repair kits/parts available? It still seems structurally pretty good, but the bottom of the frame rails from about the front cab mounts (the mounts themselves are toast, but I know that's a simpler fix) all the way to the rear are flaking badly and separating between those ridiculous layers on the open channel. The rust is starting to creep up the sides of the frame inside and out.
Is this level of decay repairable? I'll get some pictures soon.
