Exploring Custom Creative Looks (A7CII, 40mm f/2.5G)

Howdy friends,

As a Sony shooter, I’ve had a long term on-again/off-again love affair with Fuji on the side. Primarily because I love their film sims and using recipes built on those. I think we’ve finally broken up for good, after trying my last hope for an EDC Fuji, with the X-E5. I’ve come to accept that aside from the sims, and their elegant design, the Fuji system just isn’t for me.

So, what’s a guy to do? For me, the answer is to finally try the dreadfully dull sounding “Creative Looks”. I have searched up a number of different recipes, including a couple that are similar to Fuji film sims. I had about 30 minutes this evening while waiting for my daughter at a school event to shoot some test pics. I thought it might be fun to share the results. If anyone has a cool recipe you use, I’d love to see it in the comments!

These aren’t works of art by any means. Just pics to test the sims. So far, I think I like Kodachrome and Classic Chrome best. Classic Neg needs to be a bit warmer (might try cloudy WB on it), and the B&W sim crushes the shadows a bit too much for me. I could edit those, but that defeats the purpose, so I’ll need to tweak that too.

All images are SOOC, just resized and added a tiny bit of sharpening to bring back some detail lost in the resizing.

EDIT: Meant to say these are also not my original recipes. I’ve watched dozens of vids and read many blog posts, so I don’t recall which came from where, except for the B&W recipe because I happen to follow Chris already and it just stuck in my dusty memory banks.

Bad Windshield Trim = Interior Water Leak? (2019 Nissan Sentra)

Hello!

This may seem obvious but hoping to get some opinions before confronting the dealer. Around two weeks ago, we bought my daughter a 2019 Nissan Sentra with about 70K miles. While I gave the car a thorough look over before buying, I admit that I didn’t notice the detached weather stripping (first pic) until we got home that night. When it’s laying flat, you can’t see that there’s an issue.

Anyway, thinking it was mostly cosmetic, I wasn’t in a rush to get it fixed. But last night it was pounding with rain. On her way home from work, my daughter noticed water pouring into the cabin from where I’m pointing in one of the pics. Looking more closely today, I see that a good 30-50% of the seals around the windshield are detached or not installed correctly.

Hard to tell in pic #4, but the hard plastic/rubber molding at the base of the windshield is essentially detached, from the driver side door, to about the midpoint of the car.

Would these busted seals likely be the source of the interior leak? I don’t see water ingress around the inside of the windshield itself, but could water be traveling through the body panels to a point where it then runs down the door frame and into the cabin? Or are we dealing with a whole separate issue?

I know definitive answers are impossible without inspection, but just trying to get opinions before going to the dealer on Monday.

Sorry for the wall of text. Just a super stressed dad worrying about his 17 year old daughter and her ride.

Hi everyone,

For birds and wildlife with my A7RV, I’ve historically used AF-C, with subject detect turned on, and M or L Spot focusing for still subjects, or Zone for moving ones. I assumed the combo of AF-C and subject detection would keep focus pinned on the moving bird/animal, as they moved through the frame or camera was panned.

It seems to have worked pretty well, but… it just occurred to me that maybe I should be using the Tracking: Zone or Tracking: Spot, in addition to subject detect and AF-C?? I’ve only ever used the tracking mode on my A7CII since it doesn’t have a joystick for quickly moving AF points.

Does anyone use the Tracking focus modes for birds or wildlife? Appreciate any thoughts and experience with this.

Thanks!
