New Mic but defective 🫩

Hi there. I bought a Rode PodMic USB to use with my Android phone for filming videos, and I use Rode Central to adjust the settings. But I'm starting to regret the purchase... The volume is low no matter what I do (I've tried *every* setting). The only solution is to increase the gain, but doing so makes mouth noises and background noise far too audible. Adjusting the distance between my mouth and the mic doesn't solve the problem either; it makes no difference whether I'm close or far away. And there's something else... When I'm filming, I get 10 seconds of clear audio, followed by a 15-second drop where it sounds like I'm speaking underwater, then 20 seconds of normal audio, then another drop for 15 or 20 seconds... It happens every single session. I paid €180 for this mic thinking I was getting a quality product, but I was sorely mistaken. Am i the only one?
