My problem(s) with the movies and the movieverse.
Okay! So I have a whole bunch to say, mainly because I’ve been reading the books since 2020 at least, and the movies threw everything off, so just bare with me before this gets downvoted.
so to start off, we have, the most obvious one: the actual story arc of the characters.
This is a big one honestly since I feel like the movies just didn’t follow the books at all. the characters personalities were exaggerated, there was a lot of fan service in the movies (you know what I mean) and they were just nothing like the books. the movies did their own thing. and yes, while that is cool and I don’t have a problem with movies not following the EXACT events of the books/what they’re based off of, they had zero impact on viewers like the books did. The books had a shit ton of character development, especially with Snake’s arc (I’ll get to that in a second), and the movies just… gave it up. there is probably gonna be a third movie, so I can’t judge too fast. but this is just based from what we’ve seen so far honestly.
The second reason: literally snake as a whole.
The movies just made him like a pit of despair. fight me idc. we all know what happened in the books and his relationship with wolf esp, but in the movies they just make him this I guess tsundere clingy side character rather than one of the main characters. like what? and that’s another thing is, in the books his personality actually changed and he eventually went good. The snark dropped a bit and for a while he was actually a good character, until like all that stuff with splaarghon happened to him. Even after that he tried to maintain that mean, cold persona he worked so hard to build and keep, but it was clear it was all just bullshit to be honest. a personality like that comes from trauma, and in the flashbacks at the beginning of book 12, he’s shown being beaten with a garden rake. its only logical to pretend you don’t care about anyone around you after an experience like that (and for just being different and “potentially dangerous” based off of your species), to build up walls around yourself. The thing was was that wolf did go thru the same amount of trauma, but the outcome was different. So we have this entire character arc. But in the movies, they just make him a tsundere basically😭 at least in my opinion. Cause in the books we had an entire thing happen. Yeah his relationship with Joy was a little bit forced, and it really didnt seem like he liked her back. She simped over him, honestly, and I still stand with My opinion that He and wolf should have had at least a bromance or something going on.
I also have a big issue with the character’s names and designs. Diane looks nothing like she did in the books, and hell, she was ELLEN in the books, not Diane. Doom’s first name is susan For some reason, when it’s actually Joy, and she has a reason for covering her name up and it’s because it doesn’t fit with her personality. For Some reason in the movieverse, Snake is old as hell…? And they genderbent Stevie and turned him into Webs instead of legs?? Like what is going on??😭 who approved of this?💔🙏
the fan service, the fan service, the fan service… they purposefully put Diane in a lot of sexual positions for no reason, and if you wanna argue and just say I’m dirty minded, genuinely don’t even reply. not even sexual but suggestive right? and her relationship with wolf felt… super forced. love at first sight my ass, it took two movies for those two to get together, technically 1 and a half, when in the books it took a LOOOONG time. They took out a shit ton Of characters from the books, too. Rhonda, Milton, the others, the arc that Ellen inherited Rhonda’s powers, piranha’s not an oracle anymore, snake isn’t an underlord and the only clue at splaarghon’s existence is a blurry tattoo on marmalade’s back. and plus, the movies just generally piss me off. The plot is amazing don’t get me wrong and I like what they did a LOT with the plot of tbg2, but if it had been an original series, I wouldve been okay with it.
so, to sum this all up, we need:
•Snake’s possession arc
•Maybe a bit less of the fan service
•An actual character arc and not jumping into random shit
•And just generally better alignment With the books. Cause so far, the movies are their own series, and I’m not too okay with that. Cause at least with the dog man movie, it was actually Along with the plot from books 1-6.
