Please consider re-homing your bedbugs to academia
While it might initial appear as a joke it’s actually very important. We encourage those who detect bedbugs in one of our monitors to seal them in a zip lock bag and post them to academic labs.
This means that they get current strains of bedbugs as opposed to the research colonies that have been kept in captivity since the 1950’s. Simply put they are not the tough streetwise bedbugs that you encounter, they have been mollycoddled for years and have not been subjected to the last 30 years of insecticides.
The Harlem strain in particular is commonly used for product trials. The reality of this is that products appear to work in the lab but fail in the field.
Dont think for a second they don’t know this. In 20+ years I have only been asked to sell 1,000+ bedbugs to a chemical company the once. The results were not as they expected and they’ve never asked again.
So by submitting samples you are making a positive contribution to the long term eradication and management of bedbugs.
What are you waiting for?

Bed bugs - Environmental Social Governance
Recently when modelling infestation dynamics with AI an interesting conclusion was drawn and an alarm bell went off in my head. If you look at the pure mathematics of bedbugs we are at least 11% short of what we need to fix every year to see a reduction in the levels of infestations that spread to other people.
This is now a problem that simply put requires a society level solution to fix the problem and the harsh reality is that economics is a huge hurdle for many people in many parts of the world.
Bedbugs disproportionately affect higher density housing and that often means lower income housing who can least afford the impact of a full treatment program. The additional washing and drying alone might not be manageable.
So we need to find a way to help those who most need help and if we want to see this issue start to decline we need to do so immediately.
I am hoping to launch something in the next 30 days which will change that, potentially from day 1. Access to detection and treatment products free of charge including shipping.
We are going to ask our customers to donate to the program and will also have an option for people to buy kits to be distributed to others.
We will also be writing to any organisation who could help with funding or distribution of the kits.
So please if you want to help out with this let me know in the comments below. We will initially be able to distribute in the USA and UK/EU but are open to working with partners for other areas, this is a global issue and the solution needs to be global.
