Bedbug vs batbug (Massachusetts, USA)
Found this guy in my hallway floor and now concerned deeply. It's a little fuzzy so I'm leaning towards batbugs bc we live in the woods.

Hello people of reddit,
long explanation following but we suspect we might have bed bugs, professionals however have told us (based on all except the last two photos) that it‘s more likely to be carpet beetles. If you have any knowledge of either, please give us some feedback/estimation!
I got a couple of bites/red marks about a week ago, thought it was mosquitos bites first (spend a couple days in a row at the lake) but I woke up every morning with new ones, a couple of them in „clusters“ and a short google research later, everything pointed towards bed bugs :( we searched the bedroom and actually found some sheds/skins in the bedframe, later on also at the couch. We immediately called exterminators and got scammed by a firm not actually certified to do exterminations.
We called some more professional firms since then but it’s super hard to get an appointment rn. However we send them photos and they said they thought it was much more likely to be carpet beetles, since we haven’t been traveling or getting new furniture or had someone over who was known to have bed bugs and they are super uncommon to have in private households (based in Germany). We also found dark stains in the storage unter the bed and a pillow, but both haven’t been checked/cleaned in a long time and they told us it could be mold too (see pictures).
Today we checked the traps we bought and found a tiny beetle (nymphe?) in one of them and one very light colored one on the wall. No other live carpet beetles or bed bug so far.
We‘re going crazy rn waiting for an exterminator to come check, not knowing if we are dealing with bed bugs or not, constantly washing everything we wore on high heat and sleeping on the couch.
If you think you can give us an educated estimation, please help! Thank you!!!
sorry about flooding with posts.
This was almost impossible to spot ... like 1mm or even less on top of plastic boxes in cluttered room
(note I have issue with psocids in this apartment I want just be sure is not bedbug)
thanks
Long story short I have scare of bedbugs since used to stay in different hotels many weekends in 2025, some odd spot on skin now and then and some dark spot suspicious at home but never definitive evidence .
but this compared to bedbug close ups seems a lot the texture of their back , will check better that desk now
*I have checked with the link on bed bug blood spots*
Two bites on hand and blood stain. Is it over for me
When I tell you I am scared out of my mind right now you have no idea. It’s 4AM and I cannot sleep because I am so scared of the idea of bed bugs. I may just sleep in my bathtub no joke.
I developed two bites on my hand about 3 days ago and today I found this on my sheets. Not sure if it’s been there before but I don’t remember it. Haven’t found any bugs/skeletons/ anything on my bed so I think it could be a hiker before it potentially spreads.
I have traveled recently. I am so terrified, this is my absolute worst fear ever. I am crying and will call an exterminator for tomorrow morning. Please does anyone have any thoughts on this - your most honest opinions are welcomed. I’m having a nervous breakdown
The ID tool said this is a bedbug. It was crawling on our kitchen counter. Looking for David’s input
I have had professionals check my house and found nothing. I have had my attic checked for bats found nothing. I have cleaned and searched and steamed and cleaned and dried items in her room multiple MULTIPLE times and I cant find anything? I found the first one in her CRIB the second in her tub. I am SICK of the thought of her getting bit in her tub. im going insane who or what can I do?
Looks like three bites in a row on the top of my foot. But spend photo is showing that there’s also a thing in a similar position on my other foot. But now the first one is puffed up more because I scratched it. It’s not itchy. Is there any way it could be bedbugs? I slept with no sheets on a day ago
I’m unsure of whether or not this could be a bite or a sweat pimple maybe? I did have bedbugs and were supposedly clear now. It’s one dot and it wasn’t itchy. I did try popping it and that only made it hurt so I’m unsure. I do sleep bundled up in long socks/pants and a hoodie so I guess I could see how it would be able to get in and bite me here. So far I’m not seeing any “new” bites except for this.
Last Sunday night I noticed a small bug crawling next to me on the bed, unfortunately I killed it and didn’t get a picture but I now know it was a bed bug, I think a 1st instar that had fed. I left it a couple of days and didn’t see anything else but then saw a dead female adult next to my bed this Wednesday, at this time I was clearing under my bed to check just in case so it might’ve come from my belongings under my bed. I have bagged up the items from under my bed but left them next to my bed to prevent spread. I am yet to find any others and after installing the bed bug monitor on Wednesday, I also haven’t seen anything however I have still got a couple more bites (my cat brought home fleas from the vet a couple weeks ago so could be this).
I am going to my friends tomorrow and have let her know prior that I have bed bugs. I am washing my clothes (my dryer is broken but I will steam them with a handheld steamer) and putting them on as I leave, I will leave my shoes outside, go straight to her bathroom and put my clothes in the dryer for at least 30 minutes before putting them on and also not bring any bags or possessions other than my phone. I also have a 1 hour journey to get to her house. Would this routine prevent the risk of spread or could I still give them to her?
On another note how likely is it that I brought home an adult female and a 1st instar as hitchhikers or is the only real possibility that there is a nest somewhere I can’t find?
Hi all, requesting an ID on this bug I found on my pillowcase. Me nor my boyfriend have had bites
A friend of mine suspected she had bed bugs on a couch in her garden. I sat on that couch aswell. After 1-2 weeks, i had a few bites that looked suspiciously much like bed bug bites. That was 6 days ago. The very next day i took apart my couch (i dont have a bed, i sleep on a couch) i searched, cleaned, and found absolutely nothing. I have a chest that i keep as a nightstand with many blankets inside. It was entirely clean, not even dust. The white blankets inside had nothing on them. Not poop, bugs or eggs. I was sleeping on a bright pale yellow bed sheet that was clean as well. Now i only sleep on a white bed sheet and my pillow with no pillowcase so that i can inspect it easily. No blanket. There was absolutely nothing. Today i woke up to two bites. The first picture attached is how they looked when i woke up and the second is how they look a few hours later. They dont look a lot like the other bites, the positioning is what scared me. Still i found nothing when i looked at the bedsheet, or the empty white inside of my couch. not poop not even dust. i feel like im going insane i've been cleaning like a maniac. I also sprayed sanitary alcohol and repellent on the parts that looked like could hide bugs. I dont understand what more i could be doing. The rest of the pictures are how my other bites looked
the second picture isnt as clear, but the bumps are a bit raised, not flat.
I should mention: I take a lot of nightly walks and theres a lot of mosquitoes around where i live. Im aware that todays bites could be mosquitoes, but i really need some opinions before i go insane.
Visiting my girlfriend’s house. Grandparents recently had bed bugs and got them taken care of before I came. Had the monitors set up and checked before I left and they were clean. she found this under an attic door in a hallway between 2 rooms, if this is bed bugs I will die. Her house also has had a history of bat bugs. Hoping the fuzz means bat bug
Hi everyone,
First things first, I have read the posts and links attached to this subreddit before writing this.
I’m hoping for some advice because I’m honestly exhausted and confused.
For a little over a month now, I’ve been getting recurring itchy welts. Usually it’s only 1–2 at a time, and they appear on completely different body parts: wrist, leg, stomach, arm, etc. The important part is that they are usually far away from each other and I have never had a clear pattern, line, cluster, or “breakfast-lunch-dinner” type arrangement.
They often start as a small red dot and then turn into an itchy welt. Sometimes they fade fairly quickly, sometimes they stay irritated longer.
I recently spent a few days in Paris and did get a few small bites there too, but we were outside almost the entire time and those never turned into the same itchy welts I keep getting at home. Since coming back home, the same pattern started again: 1–2 itchy welts in random places, still without any recognizable pattern.
My main fear was bed bugs, but I have not found any clear evidence at all:
No live bugs
No shed skins
No eggs
No black fecal spots on mattress seams/bed frame
No blood spots that clearly point to bed bugs
No clear clusters, lines, or repeated bite pattern
I’ve checked my bed/room multiple times… Over the past weeks I’ve also done several deep cleans, spending at least 1–2 hours each time cleaning and inspecting thoroughly
I went to a doctor, but she barely looked at the spots and mostly suggested anti-dust-mite bedding. I’m not against that, but I still don’t understand these bite-like welts.
Could this be from mosquitoes, biting midges/no-see-ums, black flies, papular urticaria, or some kind of histamine/skin reaction? Has anyone had recurring isolated welts like this without finding bed bugs?
I know nobody can diagnose me online, but I’d really appreciate opinions on what else to consider and what evidence would actually make bed bugs more or less likely.
