Successfully mirror polished an edge
If you have a fixed angle sharpener it will be much easier.
First, make sure you know what grit your knife was last sharpened.
Second, get different grits of sand paper: 600, 1000, 2000, 3000, 5000(enough already to have a mirror edge), or you can go higher 7000, 10000 grits.
Third, start your grit a level higher than your sharpened knife, cut the sand paper into the shape of your fixed angle sharpening stone and then strap it on your stone.
Fourth, if your knife’s sharpening pattern is vertical, grind your edge horizontally with your sand paper, next grit, vertical, next grit, horizontal. That you can see your last scratches disappear.
Finally, finish your grind with or without diamond paste. After your last grind your edge should already be mirror polished so it is optional to strop it on diamond paste.
After all you don’t need an industrial polishing wheel or a freehand high grit whetstone.
Thank you.
