I've been messing around with trying to get Skyrim to have a spooky season feel to it. I had to do a workaround with the display settings instead of using an ENB (I'm bad at modding), but I really like how it feels right now. (also running into issues with SKSE script extender, so no SkyUI for me I guess) Let me know what you think! :3

What are your Favorite game genres?

I've been gaming since before I can remember, so it's kinda hard to pick. I've noticed that I tend to really enjoy single player experiences mostly (competitive games are just not an environment that I get anything out of, so I avoid them mostly). I love games with some kinda of mechanics based around systems/physics/interactivity. In other words, Immersive sim games or games that use immersive sim elements (Dishonored series, Prey 2017, Gloomwood kinda). To a lesser extent, Red Dead Redemption 2 has some amazing systems that could be entire games in themselves, like fishing and hunting. Abiotic Factor takes some hints as well. Cyberpunk 2077 probably doesn't have those mechanics as much, but I do love driving around Night City just to take it in.

Another genre I love, Party based crpgs. I'm still relatively new to them, but games like Warhammer 40k: Rogue Trader, Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous, Pillars of Eternity 1+2 (these two especially), Tyranny, Baldurs gate 3, Disco Elysium, and Caves of Qud kinda. I really love the diversity of how you can move through these kinds of games. And most of them are long enough that you can really gain an emotional connection to the cast of characters.

Lastly, idk if i'd qualify it as a genre, but I've recently come to really enjoy the wave of modern lo-poly games. It's opened me up to the idea of emulating older games now and my backlog has basically grown that much larger. Games like Atlyss, Straftat, Sorry we're closed, Gloomwood, Cultic, Signalis, Everwind, Hypogea (short, and i'm not very good at platformers, but a gorgeous game), Metal Garden, Fumes, Mouthwashing, Squirrel Stapler, Warhammer 40k Boltgun, Ultrakill. Lots of variety, stylized graphics that focus a lot more on aesthetics over fidelity (I believe it lets the devs put their attention towards more important things, like story or just making the game fun). A lot of these modern ones also crossover with the og survival-horror formula, so you could consider that somewhat part of this (for me) And as for emulating, I've mostly been playing some PS2 titles, but some Gamecube ones too. Games like Final Fantasy X, Ratchet & Clank, Super Monkey Ball 2, The Legend of Zelda Windwaker.

Sorry if this is yappy, I just look at games and see so many voices saying that it's a waste of time, especially when I was growing up. I can't imagine living a fulfilling life without games. Games are one of the few things that bring me just this unadulterated, unconditional sense of joy. My biggest problem is not having enough time/energy to play as much as i'd like.

Anyway, I'd love to hear about YOUR favorite genre(s) and some games that qualify. Why do you like those games? What genre(s) do you NOT like? Do you have a fav game that doesn't line up with what you'd consider your fav genre? Anything else you can think up thats relevant. And if you wanna talk about some of the games I brought up, I'd love to talk about those too.

Never stop playing c:
