Just decided to spend my summer getting in better shape. I started up a couple of months ago after a slow year and a subsequent weight gain, so this is early days.

I decided to try a 500 meter to set a reference time for later (see screenshot).

I guess my questions are as follows:

  1. Is the time decent for my age group? I am a 44 yo male weighing 80 kg.

  2. I hit a brick wall about 300 meters in. Any tips?

  3. My aim is a sub 40 minute 10 k by Christmas. Is this doable and how many times/week should I aim for?

Any and all advice is most appreciated!

High-survivability?

Playing in a one-shot soon which will be very heavy on the combat, so I need a concept that has good survivability, sustained damage and/or healing and/or support capabilities. Any ideas?

Level 10. Dnd 5.5e. No multiclassing. One rare + one uncommon magic item.

Mass Combat?

Next session will probably result in my party helping defend an orc tribe of some 100 soldiers vs an army of trolls of ogres and trolls (50+ in number). I was thinking about how to run this and all I know it won't be doing individual rolls for everyone! Anyone use a system (homebrew or official) that works well?

The Amethyst Arbitrator

Weapon (Heavy Crossbow), Very Rare (Requires Attunement)

This crossbow is carved from a single, massive crystal, its form shifting with internal prismatic light. It requires no physical ammunition; the weapon's psionic magic, channeled through a crystalline quiver attached to its frame, generates bolts of solid energy.

You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls and damage rolls made with this magic weapon. The bolts it creates deal Force damage instead of Piercing damage.

Psionic Quiver. The crossbow's quiver can hold up to 5 crystal bolts and magically generates new ones each day. At dawn, 1d4 + 1 crystallized bolts coalesce in the quiver. Any bolts generated that exceed the maximum of 5 dissipate harmlessly.

Each special property below expends 1 crystal bolt when activated. If you have no bolts remaining in the quiver, you can still use the crossbow as a +1 weapon, firing bolts of pure Force energy that fade after dealing damage.

Phase Shift. As a Magic action, you can expend 1 bolt and choose an unoccupied space on a solid surface within 60 feet that you can see. A shimmering bolt streaks to that location, and you teleport to the chosen space.

Forced Shift. When you take the Attack action with this crossbow, you can replace one of your attacks by expending 1 bolt and making a single attack roll against a creature within the weapon's normal range. On a hit, the target takes no damage but is wreathed in telekinetic energy and moved up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space on a solid surface that you can see. This movement doesn't provoke Opportunity Attacks.

Resonant Detonation. When you make an attack with the crossbow, you can expend 1 bolt to attempt a thunderous shot. On a hit, the bolt detonates. Each creature of your choice within 10 feet of the target must succeed on a DC 15 Constitution saving throw or take 4d8 Thunder damage and, if the creature is Large or smaller, have the Prone condition. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage and isn't knocked Prone.

Gravity Anchor. When you hit a creature with an attack from this crossbow, you can expend 1 bolt to tether the target to its current location with a thread of psionic force. The attack deals normal weapon damage. Until the end of the target's next turn, the first time it willingly moves (including by teleportation), it must succeed on a DC 15 Strength saving throw or have its movement canceled and be pulled back to the tethered space. On a successful save, the target moves normally and the tether breaks. The tether also ends early if the target takes damage from another source.

PS. This is the first draft. I just want initial thoughts on power level, language/wording issues etc. All thoughts are most welcome! All ability names are preliminary and likely to change.
