Rate this deal; Samsung HW-Q6CC for $100

Rate it 1-10, 10 being the best

Been hovering on this sub the past few weeks as I was in the process of getting my first soundbar. I bought a couple lower end ones ($50-100) to test out, but was leaning towards returning them in favor of paying a little more ($150, maybe $200) for a little step up.

Stumbled upon this Samsung last week and jumped on it, only to have it canceled on me. A few days later it showed as available again. Thinking it would be the same story, I tried again, but the 2nd time it didn’t get canceled! So hoping this was a steal.

Normally $380, the first purchase was at $200, which I thought was a good deal. Then when I bought it the second time, it showed as $200 but then once I purchased it, it showed as $99. A great surprise.

30 day footwear trial

Recently ordered some Ryder shoes and have only tried them on around the house, as to not “use“ them and keep their “new” status. I haven’t even gone outside in them. At the moment I’m leaning towards returning them (I’m very picky when it comes to shoes, particularly running shoes).

I guess my question is — with their 30 day trial policy, for lack of better words, is it frowned upon to use them for a few jogs/every day use, even though my mind is 75% made up towards returning them? I have a trip coming up that these shoes would be a perfect “test” for, since they’re a good mix of performance and casual style, and could therefore be a great travel shoe (in theory). I plan on running 5-10 times during the trip, on top of walking a ton.

I don’t want to abuse the policy, but also with running shoes you never really know if they work for you until you run in them at least a few times. So if that‘s what the policy is designed for, to potentially change a doubtful buyer’s mind, then great!

Utility split

My former roommate (who is a friend of mine) got married ~mid-July. He paid rent through July, but for the July utility bill, he only wants to split for the time frame he lived there for (17 days of July), and not split the whole month’s utilities in half like we always did.

I understand where he’s coming from, since he didn’t live here for 14/31 days in July, and didn’t “use utilities” I suppose, but to play Devil’s advocate: he paid rent for the whole month, so wouldn‘t utilities be similar?

This isn’t a heated dispute, but I am curious whose “side” you guys would be on! And to see if my thought process holds merit.

Is this a good value/deal? Samsung 3.1 sale

Normally $280, on sale for $200. I recently got the TCL S45H 2.0 for $70 and it’s very “meh” (I can still return it).

I don’t need the fanciest set up ever, just trying to find good bang for the buck. Willing to pay to step it up to the next level, as long as I would be getting my money’s worth with the Samsung. But if the extra $130 is not worth $130 in “performance”, then I’ll stick with the TCL.

edit: came across the Samsung HW-Q6CC at Walmart, regular $379 on sale for $169. which appears to be a superior unit, and therefore value, according to google AI at least. Thoughts?

TCL QM5K sale a good budget/value buy?

It’s on sale for $400USD, usually $700.

Basically all of my TV time is streaming series/movies & watching live sports. I may dabble back into gaming, but that would be a very small/infrequent portion of the pie (maybe 10%).

I saw that this TV has a 60hz refresh rate, which to my understanding is not the best for sports, but I realize I’m looking for value and wont be able to get all the nice features. It also has Motion Rate 240 to “help with blur/pixelation” — does that actually work? seeing conflicting things online.

Any other guidance would be appreciated. I’m no TV expert. Just want good value for a mid(?)-level tv!

Used soundbar from FB marketplace vs buying new

I’m in the market for a soundbar to improve upon my current tv speaker set up.

I’ve been browsing soundbars on Facebook marketplace. Most of the models being sold seem to be ~5 years old. Mostly more “notable” brands — Bose, Samsung, LG. Mostly listed for $50-100.

Alternatively, I’ve also checked some sales and see current/newer models from ”lesser” brands — TCL, Onn (Walmart), Vizio (not sure if Vizio falls into this category or the first category?). These sales are around $70-100, so similar to the used listings on FB marketplace

I’m not an audiophile so I don’t need fancy, top-of-the-line stuff. I just want good value/solid sound/decent bass for the price, to improve upon the tv speakers.

I guess my question is, has soundbar technology improved a lot over the past ~5 years that a current model from a “smaller” brand is just as good/better(?) than an older model from a big name brand? Or are the big name brands “big“ for a reason, and even their older stuff is better than newer models from smaller brands?

Or are their specific specs I should look for, regardless of brand? I think I’ve seen elsewhere on the community that Dolby Atmos(?) is a key feature to look for, but correct me if I’m wrong. Any guidance would be appreciated.

TCL S45H a decent value?

At my Sam’s Club the TCL S45H is on sale for $70, usually $100. I currently have no sound bar and am just using the TV speaker, which is noticeable (I used to have one before my roommate took it with him while moving out).

I’m not an audiophile (if that’s the right term), so I’m just looking for a decent value model in the $100-150 range. The sale is obviously a bonus.

I don’t know much about specs, but I think I read on this thread that having Dolby Atmos and HDMI ARC capability (which I heard is better than optic, IIRC?) are good starting points/baseline specs. Correct me if I’m wrong.

Thoughts on this model‘s value?

side-note: earlier today I bought a Vizio 5.1 from Sam’s Club; normally $179, on clearance for $70. Got home & unboxed it to find out it was broken…lol. It was the only one on the shelf so I don’t think I can swap it out. I guess that’s why it was on clearance :(

RunKnox coaching

Does anyone have any experience using them for personal run coaching? (I would probably not partake in the group aspect of it due to the early practice times).

What is the coach(es) like as a person, personality wise? What about as a coach? Did/do you enjoy working with them? Did you improve while working with them? Any other thoughts or experiences are welcomed :)

Previously I used Knoxville Endurance for coaching. But I took some time off of having a coach (continuing to run on my own) and have been curious about RunKnox.

If it helps for context, my goal is sub3 for a winter marathon (current PR 3:08).

Massage recs for active individual

As title states. Looking for recs. I’m an active male that pushes my body (running, soccer, gym, various other sports), so there’s a lot of wear and tear — particular on the legs.

It seems like my needs are a blend between a sports massage (mobility, performance & recovery focused) and deep tissue (trigger points, tension, adhesion release). NOT looking for a relaxing gentle (Swedish?) massage

I’m in South Knox, so I prefer the place to be as close as possible of course (South Knox/Downtown/Bearden), but would consider a little further out if necessary.

Toe infection

About 5 days ago I had a hang-nail (or similar) situation, and clipped off the corner piece of toenail. Yesterday I started feeling some tender pain. There‘s redness, puffiness, and a little white (puss I assume) near the nail.

I assume it means it’s infected. The pain came on yesterday afternoon. Today I started a few saltwater soaking sessions, as well as neosporin. How long do I give it to heal “at home”, using those two methods, before going to a doctor? And if I should go to a doctor, what kind? Podiatrist? Primary Care Physician (if so, I don’t currently have one)?

male, 30, non-smoker, 5-8, 160lb. Very active (soccer, runner, gym, & more). Hence my ugly feet, lol. Sleep apnea, but no other medical issues related to this.
