Fictionlab Downfall

I've been active on fictionlab for exactly a year, so I can confidently say that I don't like the direction this platform and its community are heading.

But first things first:

I really liked and still like fictionlab. It's probably the most user-friendly roleplaying platform. It's very easy to create your own universe or characters. It also supports language options, not just English but others, so for me, it's always been a great thing.
I mainly created historical, war, and crime scenarios, but also other things, as I created a "high school simulator."
I avoided scenarios focused on NSFW; writing intimate scenarios with AI wasn't my favorite activity.

A year ago, I thought fictionlab was growing rapidly; people were creating hundreds of complex scenarios, and I also created many scenarios for myself and others.

Unfortunately, everything began to change in the winter of 2025/2026. LLM models significantly deteriorated, especially Oracle, which was once considered the best, but then drastically deteriorated. Anyone who posted on this platform back then knows what I'm talking about.

Despite dozens of staff attempts to fix it, unfortunately, nothing has been improved.

People complained, pointed out bugs, and offered suggestions for improvement, but nothing was done.

This spring, we received the first major update, which could be called "Memory Matrix," an update that was supposed to transform Fictionlab somewhat, and for me, it was the reason I suspended my activities and stopped publishing scenarios for people.

Why? Immediately after the update's release, most of the scenarios I had required a complete rewrite from the ground up, which was completely pointless.

The quality of the LLM models also remained unchanged. The quality of Oracle, Chimera, and Glendora remained the same as last winter. The staff once again demonstrated their unwillingness to address any specific, fundamental issues. Oracle continued to crash, continued to experience memory issues, and there were still days when Oracle was completely offline, while Chimera still has formatting issues.

What did the staff do? They released another major update a week ago, which caused even more confusion.

The new $25 ultra account was supposed to offer generated images in the scenario, automatically generated backgrounds, new reasoning LLM models, and a new image generator that was supposed to be stunning in quality! In theory, it sounded great.

But how did it work? A full week after the release of this "ultra" update, it's still plagued by the same problems as on the first day.

  1. The image generator doesn't work.

  2. The background generator sometimes has issues and doesn't work either.

  3. Fictionlab+ and free models haven't been fixed at all.

The most bizarre thing about this whole thing was the last Saturday patch. It was supposed to fix a few issues, but instead created new ones. Users are having trouble selecting characters, the image generator is completely dead. Nothing has been fixed, only broken even more.

In summary:

I don't like what's happened to this platform. I don't like the "staff" approach to all of this. Instead of fixing problems and focusing on what people and the platform themselves need, they're adding completely unnecessary things that don't improve anything and only cause chaos. On top of that, they're charging you $25 for something that doesn't work!

I believe FictionLab is slowly spiraling downward. It's only going to get worse, and I think it's time to look for an alternative.
