India often seems more concerned about protecting reputations — both personal and institutional — than protecting students and citizens.
It is horrifying that people accused of sexual abuse and manipulation can still roam freely while institutions and authorities avoid taking strict action. Asking someone to simply leave Pune and not return is not justice. Predators should be held accountable under the law and put behind bars, not quietly removed from the city.
What makes this even more disturbing is that the victims were students — young people who were emotionally manipulated, sexually harassed, drugged, recorded without consent, and allegedly pushed into situations they never consented to. Both girls and boys were affected. Many are only now realizing that what they experienced years ago was abuse and attempted sexual assault, not something “normal” to brush aside.
The accused was someone many of us knew during college. Back then, he appeared genuine, helpful, and trustworthy — someone people considered like family. Finding out that the same person allegedly exploited and traumatized so many young people is deeply shocking and heartbreaking.
Educational institutions, especially reputed ones, should stand with students and support them in every possible way instead of focusing on damage control and protecting their image. Silence and inaction only enable abuse.
People like this should face proper legal consequences, not protection through influence, reputation, or institutional shielding.
