Best album/mixtape/ep specifically in terms of music production in last three years only...

Usage of instruments compared to standard examples, genre tappings, composition written on those music is main criteria.

Commercial, semi commercial, underground doesn't matter but I am effed up from reel oriented overdone legato/staccato flow over run- out- of -the -mill- beat songs,

So to improve listening experience, search up some fresh felt musical production .It will also help aspiring producers to learn and check on

My pick is members only by bir and spaceboys from arsh heer.

Note- This is strictly a personal observation which is free for including other projects too, but these are the only ones which I always felt having music production and composition not too commercial

These are lyrically good cheema y projects, only

Takde gharde, life of hip hop, necklace, away, indeed, avoid are some of the best of his,in terms of lyrical maturity. I am not glazing, but fukrapanti is less here.

Also I heard that this man say lot shit about immigration, that if exposed will make him target of ICE. Is this true ,if yes Can somebody clear about this to me?

Making gangsta rap song is not inherently bad but it must have a clear, multi sided perspective if possible, because there is a difference between just making gang banging and speaking as a perspective of a gangster facing both good /bad sides of his gang business, which was hallmark of 90s-2000s American rap subjects.

Boom bap genre is not that explored, if not say underexplored in punjabi hip hop

These are most known boom bap songs in punjabi and even these have some trap elements here and there and are not pure boom bap

For few people, punjabi music now is inferior compared to 2000s, early 2010s is because..

Because industry jumped too late yet quick on trap in 2020s which it should have done around 2015s .

Because trap at its choice is very easy to make, but some people didn't comprehend the thing that producers and singers/rappers are responsible for making genre repetitive

And they will glaze those who didn't done trap, and say only this music should exist , because those non trap artist have far more influence on industry, but that because their genre and work grew and celebrated . But, we should not shun newer artist just because new genre seems to be like what they think

Many bad songs are there then and they are there now. However I won't mind if they listen and appreciate and artist use both folk and trap elements. Its an opinion of an outsider to an punjabi music, who has been spending time on amrinder gill/diljit/honey/imran khan/bilal saeed music in his childhood

I am going to ask if here people have heard these albums(quite mainstream in West but still heavily influential) these are creame of trap while rest producing out maybe mid to bad but these almost trap based albums never feel monotono

DS2, Birds in trap singing McKnight , damn, not all heroes wear cape, dark lane demo tapes, heroes and villains.

If we are all taking samples and shit from West then we should also make modern sound to be more experimental like these

I hope people make more songs, as perspective of criminal rather than just gang banging

Many of sidhu songs are actually written through a perspective of gangster or whatever, and except outlaw , celebrity killer and badfella .. There is no song where sidhu did gang banging which nowadays people do it like they are this -that- those blah blah..

for gangster rap-sing it's very important to have an observation about crime, Which was quintessential with 80-90s rappers , where you have to be strong and gangsta enough to cope or survive but observational to be known as an aware person.

You may say sidhu got few extremely personal observation, social commentry song but those he had are great and he would have even more in unreleased bulk, because it's was clear that he was moving from that repetitive style of 2017-18 whe he got, and writing every hardcore song from a perspective,

Navaan also did it, arjan dhillon also did, Wazir also did lmao even more than Sidhu and I hope gangsta rap must become more observational where you won't just rap about gang banging but work, danger , consequences around it.

Time flew fast that this album feels nostalgic. But beyond that does this album have influence on punjabi music

Cheques song was the one which I only liked when it was released, but yeah hype was insane, insane might be short word, it directly gave competition to making memories. It's still gain 400k -500k streams daily(cheques alone at 200-250k), but hey...

It grew on me such that I stream full album, from still rollin to the flow. Except monotonous baritone vocal texture of shubh and lyrical being repetitive , I didn't find out album to be completely monotonous in musicality.

Heck every song got different sub genre from trap, shubh even flow switch in few songs, tempi change, Candace change according to staccato or legato flow , even if composition around verses and hook are similar because shubh was trying on formula which made his earlier singles successful

However, does this album have impact and influence on modern day punjabi music ?moon

These are most played songs of punjabi music in last four years, so much played that even non target audience got to catch on atleast on thier hook, paragraph which got played shit ton on social media, basically everywhere

Honourable mentions ---- Afterhours(bir), dewaane (navaan sandhu), admiring you/boyfriend (karan aujla) , millionaire (honey singh), kini kini/lalkara/case(diljit dosanjh), never fold(smw). Did I left?

u/Beginning-Log-2491 — 15 days ago

As far as I know, take notes by smw was somewhat got psychedelic edge but not too much, few bir tracks got similar attempt, arsh heer spaceboy album tries to get close. Shubh and smg got potential too. Diljit too got few of such type of tracks in ghost album

But this genre is what isn't usually explored in punjabi hip hop

u/Beginning-Log-2491 — 21 days ago

This is lofi trap, no reverb but there is some underwater feel, this feel dominates many of such type of songs in West, since 2010s but this is best of what I found in punjabi.

Man vocals sound soothing yet something like suppressed and washed up which gives the feel

u/Beginning-Log-2491 — 21 days ago

These are all major trap genres÷

  • Atlanta trap /southern trap(most common, provides common structure and heavily used by likes of mrxci)
  • Toronto trap(introduced by AP dhillon with his older crew)
  • Drill(most frequently used within 2020-24 period)
  • Trap edm(most frequently used in between 2010s to 2020s by many of artist, one prime example Sukhe E and even honey singh worked on it)
  • Phonk/Latin funk trap( Navaan sandhu dappen dan is an example of it)
  • Pluggrnb(I remember shubh offshore to be example of it)
  • Grime(most commonly used within 2010s punjabi hip hop songs)
  • Rage /opium trap( Arjan dhillon hikka is rage but not opium, gurinder gill world is our is opium trap filled)
  • Trap metal
  • Trap soul (shubh moves is an example of it to an extent)
  • Other overarching genres such as alternative drill, folk trap ,lofi /cloud trap are there...
  • Psychedelic trap

so which genres punjabi hip hop needs to improve and to explore. As I think not every genre will suit, but as many are spreading thier legs in experiments we shall see growth as global musical powerhouse.

Also music producer like MXRCI should fcking explore above given genres, as only in few arjan dhillon tracks or other mid tier artist tracks he tried to experiment

See, now I won't mindlessly bash AI as we all are paranoid due AI use and slops spreading, which so much that people even forget vfx-sfx do exist which makes up what seems to be AI for you(however their use was slightly mid in music video no denying that)

Now an easy way to understand is if voice is completely AI slop made or not is to see breathing patterns and gaspings.

(that is different from AI processed because vocals need a lot more things rather than just recording and pasting with music where human voice should remain intact) .Eyes on me got gaspings and breathing at notes where it is supposed to be there, even if vocals are heavily Processed and harshly mixed . While Nivair pannu together was autogenerated by AI voice of Sidhu which is completely lofi as an attempt to hide problems but no gaspings is there and pitch was same with changing loudness which should not be there in a romantic song. It can be identified as voice tailed back up in lofi sound and whole all other elements don't cancel up vocals.

Audio is great, while in music video what I see other than subpar use of vfx is body double being very stiff and bleached up colour grading. While Barota mv seems to be shoot with all real stuff, that's why it looks better. Similar argument can be made with Barota audio. AI use as of now is limited to synthesizing for audio mix with music so to not sound premature and not creating something completely new.
