Cork cycling network

I have been doing a lot of cycling around Cork city and suburbs the last few weeks. It really is nice, lovely to see so many more young families and more women cycling these days also.
There is a great cycling network there already in Cork. But I feel with some more investment and drive from Cork Councils, Cork really could become a cycling hub in Ireland.
On my bike I was doing some thinking, If I had my way:

Quick Wins:
1.Safe Pedestrian Crossings, near the Model Farm bar to connect the 2 greenways here
2.Deliver an actual proper connection between the Curaheen Greenway and MTU
3.Safe Pedestrian Crossings on the straight road to connect the Lee Fields to the Curraheen greenway
4. Connect Fitzgeralds Park to the "Lee Banks Walkway"
4. Connect Hartys Quay to the Passage Greenway
5. Connect Carrigaline town to the Crosshaven greenway

Medium:

  1. A new bridge over the N27 to connect Ballyphehane to Tramore Valley Park
  2. City to Viaduct Greenway – (advantage here, it's all old railway line and you wouldn't be pissing off impacted homeowners, car parkers, impacting traffic)
  3. Connect Blackrock Pier (to Blackrock Castle, obviously would be very expensive but would really complete the Marina)
  4. Connect the Marina back to the Marina Market and into the city
  5. Glanmire to city, which in turn feeds into the Cork County council side of Dunkettle to Youghal essentially
  6. Douglas to Hartys Quay

Long Term

  1. Complete the "Lee to Sea Greenway" essentially connecting Inisscara to Crosshaven, most of the bits are there, they just need connecting
  2. Cork to Kinsale greenway, while this would not connect a big population like "Lee too Sea" but would be a huge tourist attraction
  3. A northside connection, maybe something like Blarney to Apple right across to Glanmire, which in turn would connect down to Youghal

I know some of the above are decades and decades away, some might be delivered as part of Cork Luas and Bus Connects. But I think a lot is achievable if there was real leadership and drive from both councils.

Variation to cork city development plan

Hi all, first time poster.
I might have missed the theme of this post already.

I was reading submissions to the proposed variation to cork city plan, re zoning of land on the outskirts of cork city.

And the themes of the submissions were interesting. The vast majority were calling for more infrastructure, amenities and services alongside all the proposed building/zoning.

Around cork I see the same thing happening, places like glanmire or carrigaline. Massive new housing developments for badly needed and wanted housing but nothing to go with all these developments.
Nothing and nowhere for a community to grow.

In most cases I see a huge or a cluster of big new housing developments but no local school, shop, GP, playground, pharmacy etc. no bike lanes or
Public transport, nothing for teens, nothing to support a community for it to grow

So everyone has to drive every single day to get anywhere or access the most basic services. Then we wonder why traffic is so bad. Or why there are social issues, as nobody knows anyone.

I dunno for me it is just terrible planning by the council and so called “planners”.

Has anyone any thoughts of how to improve things?

Re zoning of lands for development for cork city council

If people are interested the date for closing is tomorrow 13 th may

https://consult.corkcity.ie/en/node/13381/submissions

Propose re zoning of land by cork city council for places like maryborough hill, kerry pike, Lehenaghmore

Badly needed housing of course, no issue at all with that. But I hope they build some infrastructure and amenities with all this proposed building as well

It can’t just be build and build and sprawl we need more local services in the suburbs also
