Lunch with a pint

So few of us at work have adopted the tradition of rewarding ourselves of a Friday afternoon by going for lunch and having a snakey pint. We've done 77 on the Grand Parade, and Barbarossa, but looking for any other suggestions in the city centre? We're drawing a complete blank, most places that'd serve a good munch and a pint wouldn't be open for lunch like Hungry Hippo or the Alibi...

Anyone in a job they really like right now?

Just feeling a bit deflated from tech layoffs. I'm currently on a contract with another big multinational but can't shake the feeling that it's not the right place for me either. I'm being fairly underpaid and the commute is a bit shite. Wondering what companies or roles in Cork are people enjoying ? Everything globally just feels so unstable now.

All the Cork TDs who voted against sanctions on Israel last night, despite kidnapping and assaulting Irish citizens this week. A few hours prior Michael Martin called for the suspension of trade then voted against sanctions.

Scams on revolut.

Just to make people aware. My wife received a call from revolut bank an Indian caller. It didn't come up as a scam call so she answered it. They started by saying there has been strange activity on her account and named the transactions when she checked she could see the transactions were declined and was able to call out our eircode. This made her trust them. They took a few grand from her account. Before anyone says she already feels gullible. This is just to make people aware. Revolut are saying they're not responsible because she gave permission on the call. Rotten people. I hope there is such a thing as karma

Mushroom in shower - plumber recommendations

Hi lads - from what I’ve read, a mushroom in our shower grout is bad news.
Does anyone have previous experience, or a recommendation for a professional to assess the damage?

Courtesy crossings

Picture taken from Google maps old fort road Ballincollig. Wouldn't they be better/safer if they made these "courtesy crossings "actually proper pedestrian crossings .Some people believe they're the same but they are not !traffic doesn't not have to stop hence the name

Smashed Window on the 212

Was coming home there from town and the bus was on the Ringmahon road and right before coming up by ringmahon rangers a big enough rock got thrown through the window. Thankfully there wasn’t anybody in that section and the bus itself was practically empty but on another day it could’ve been a whole different story.

Togher industrial estate

If you had to walk from Turner's Cross to the An Post depot on Togher industrial estate, which way would you go?

Google maps is suggesting there's some sort of footpath along the river past Barry's and under the South Ring (see picture below) which I never knew about. Is that way safe, or will I just walk the long way round or take the 203?

Pieta House Cork Job Advertisement below the minimum wage

Even if this was a job advertisement from last year, the living wage wasn't €13.95 since late 2022. Their current advertisment has the wage at €13.95. Financial insecurity is a marker for anxiety and distress yet they are creating it in their staff.

Airport Parking

Flying out of the airport for the weekend on Friday morning back on Sunday, went to book the long term parking online. Both long term car parks fully booked on a weekend in the middle of May, which I can't believe and they want nearly 70 quid for the short term! Does anyone think it's worth chancing driving up to the long term or am I kidding myself..?

The most commonly broken down car in Cork goes to..

I've a friend who works for AA Ireland he was telling me the most commonly broken down car that needs to be towed away by a tow truck is "Audi "which surprised me because I used to own one once and I thought it was indestructible even after someone crashed into me writing off their car and I only sustained a broken tail light anyway I digress ..then number 2 spot goes to bmw ..I actually saw two audis being towed out to audi cork this morning before posting this

The future of Carrigtwohill. Where do people see it going?

Carrigtwohill has changed massively from a small village into a fast-growing area with business parks, Fota Zoo/Retail Park close, new housing, schools, sports clubs, shops, pubs, and more.

I’ve actually purchased a home in Carrigtwohill this year, so I’m interested in how locals see the area developing.

With the N25, train line to Cork, major employment nearby, and ongoing development, can people see it becoming similar to Douglas, Carrigaline or Ballincollig in the next 5–10 years?

I understand people will naturally love the area they live in, but honest views on where it’s realistically heading would be great.

Or will it stay more of a commuter town / large village? Would love to hear from locals and those familiar with the area.

Thanks Cork❤️

I'm about to give my last exam in Irish traditional music and then I'm done, end of the semester, end of it all, back to my country! Just wanted to share a few words on how good I felt here in Cork. I'm truly happy to have had the opportunity to live a full year here in this amazing city, and I assure you, I will leave a big piece of heart just hanging there in St. Patrick's Street. Cork really had some of the best people I've ever met, and it's with incredible grief and a saddened heart that I have to say goodbye, for now! I will be back for sure, I fell in love with this country and this city, and of course BEAMISH!

So yeah, thank you all guys for being such an amazing pack of people, hope to be back soon and I will never forget you❤️
