Kaiser Permanente New Hire Orientation vs. school - Any Advice?
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice from anyone who’s been through Kaiser onboarding, especially if you were in nursing school at the time.
As soon as I learned about the onboarding schedule, I reached out to my preboarding coordinator and then the Education Department to see if there was any flexibility. I explained that I’m fully available a few days during the week but unfortunately I just started my clinicals and those are days that i cannot be excused from.
I even offered several alternatives:
-Attending any portions virtually if possible.
-Staying later on the days I’m available.
-Coming in on weekends if anyone is available.
-Doing whatever I can to make up any missed content without delaying my training.
The response I received was that new hire onboarding is mandatory for every employee and that they don’t see how my proposed plan would work because it would extend the onboarding process beyond the allotted two-week timeframe. They’re going to discuss it further, but it didn’t sound very optimistic.
I’m trying to figure out if there are any options I haven’t thought of.
Has anyone here:
-Been able to work around Kaiser onboarding because of nursing school or another academic program?
-Had onboarding deferred to another cohort?
-Been allowed to complete any portions virtually or make up sessions?
I completely understand why the onboarding is mandatory, and I’m not trying to avoid it. I’m just trying to honor commitments that were already in place before I accepted the position while also not losing an opportunity to work for Kaiser.
Any advice or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
