Lower Crevery nr Rathmullan unfinished houses…

I’m being a big old nosey bitch but this is prime Reddit… I drove through Lower Crevery nr Rathmullan a wee while back and saw 2 houses that looked unfinished and abandoned - does anyone know what the story is with them? An internet search tells me they were built 2005 ish and were up for sale 5 years ago but don’t seem to have been sold. Mica?

Architect timelines and communication - what’s reasonable to expect?

How long did it take you to get from your initial consultation and brief to having plans ready to submit for planning?

Ours has taken around 13 months, including a pre-planning meeting with the council, one false start with the design (site conditions) and QS pricing. I’d be interested to hear what other people’s timelines looked like.

The biggest challenge for us is communication. We often don’t have a clear sense of what’s happening next, who’s doing what or when we should expect it to be done.

I’d like to feel we’re being kept informed regularly, without having to chase to find out where things stand and what the next steps are. Basically, some proactive management.

How has everyone managed the relationship with their architect? Do you have regular calls, agreed milestones or updates at particular stages? Is it normal to go weeks without hearing anything from them?

Did your architect explain from the outset what to expect, what the various stages were and roughly how long each (on average) would take?

I’m trying to understand whether my expectations are reasonable or whether I need to check them at the door.

Thanks!

Planning woes

Our first planning invalidation was because of ONE measurement on one of the submissions the architect forgot to add (this one only set us back by 1 week). We’ve just been invalidated for a second time (4 weeks after submission) today because apparently the sign on our site wasn’t there or wasn’t visible from the roadside. Annoying because I drove up, took a picture of the sign - from the roadside - and sent it on to the architect to confirm that it was there… Architect says there isn’t much to be done, that it’s just one of those things and we have to resubmit - setting us back by 5 weeks total at this point. How does the most minor thing trigger an invalid result? Also, I’ve had NO guidance about where the sign needs to move to - we put it exactly where the architect told us to on our site. Very frustrated! Just having a rant.
