Roadtrip advice needed!

My friend and I will be doing a roadtrip around Co Donegal for 2 and a half days, starting and ending in Derry. I think my current plan might be trying to fit too much in, so I would love advice on what to prioritize and what to cut out. Thank you in advance!!!

Day 1: Depart from Derry, end in Dunfanaghy
- Grianan of Aileach
- Fanad Head lighthouse
- Murderhole beach?
- Horn head?
- Overnight in Dunfanaghy

Day 2: Dunfanaghy to Ardara
- Falcarragh Beach
- Glenveagh Castle/Park
- Arranmore island (think this is adding too much - would you recommend skipping this completely? Or doing this instead of Glenveagh?)
- Overnight in Ardara

Day 3:
- Was going to try to get to the Caves of Maghera, but I think that’s a bit too much
- Glengash Pass to Glencolmcille
- Glencolmcille Folk Village
- Sliabh Liag
- Drive back to Derry! (Wanting to get back by 7pm at the latest)

Is it a big mistake to not take on Inishowen/would you recommend that over Fanad? Appreciate any and all advice :)

Traveler headstone. Donegal, Ireland

I went down a rabbit hole when I found this gravestone last Sept. Charlie died from cancer at 21 or 22. He came from a family in the Irish traveler community. His family raised a lot of money ($150,000 I think) to create this for him. Most of the other headstones are small, old, modest and what one would find in an old cemetery next to a church. Former priests are buried here with significantly smaller headstones. People in Donegal have tried to have the headstone removed, saying it's tacky, gaudy, etc... RIP Charlie, you were clearly loved.

More pics in comments.

Builder contractor query

As the title says, I’ve a query on building contractor prices.
For a 1-off family home in south donegal, what is a realistic price range for building at the moment? (In terms cost per sqft or sqm if possible)

I’ve just got a price in and I’m struggling to wrap my head around it. I’m well aware prices have gone up recently but it seems insane to me.

Would you ever consider helping build your local remote work community?

Quick question for anyone working remotely or hybrid 👋

Have you ever wished there were more opportunities to meet people locally?

Grow Remote is looking for remote and hybrid workers who might be interested in helping build local communities through simple things like coffee meetups, after-work socials and local events.

We're running a free 60-minute online session to explain what's involved.

No experience needed and no obligation to volunteer afterwards.

If you're curious, you can register here:

A photograph taken at The Bluestacks Challenge that took place 2 weeks ago in Donegal. This moment had such a beautiful light, I am glad how it turned out :)

Third spaces

Bar the pub/night club, what is a third space event that you do to meet people you don't know, where is it at, what town? Time? Venue? What impact has it had on you?

Fintown Forest Walk

Really nice wee walk. Good tables for picnic.

Thought: with so many lakes, why not a walk path around them?

Sliabh Liag By Public Transit

I am booking a trip across Ireland for around 10 days and really want to do the Sliabh Liag hike. Everything I read online describes how to get there by car, but I will only have access to public transit (just doesn't make sense for me to book a car for my trip). Is that possible? Can you do Sliabh Liag via public transit, or at least get a taxi ride to the cliffs or with a shuttle group? If it is possible, where should I stay? I've seen some recommendations to stay as far as Donegal or as close as Killybegs or Kilcar. Any advice would be super appreciated!

Had a wee look round Crolly Distillery in Donegal

Donegal's first whiskey distillery in 180 years is housed in a building that's lived several lives.
The Crolly Distillery isn't just about whiskey—it's a piece of Donegal history.
The restored 1901 building has been:
🧶 Home to the world-famous Donegal Carpets, whose work reached Buckingham Palace, the White House and Áras an Uachtaráin.

🪖 A British Army and RIC barracks during the War of Independence.

🪆 The birthplace of the iconic Crolly Dolls from the 1940s to the 1970s.

🥃 Since 2018, the first licensed whiskey distillery in County Donegal in around 180 years.

The distillery uses traditional direct-fired Charentais copper stills from France and double-distils its spirit—a method that sets it apart from many Irish distilleries. The founders wanted to revive Donegal's lost whiskey-making tradition, and the result is one of Ireland's most unique craft distilleries.
If you're visiting Donegal, the tour gets consistently excellent reviews, with visitors praising the guides, the building's history, and the tasting experience. Several reviewers even rate it above some of Ireland's larger distillery tours.

Sheet lighting happens all over the world but mother nature would never touch ole Donegal like this.

Don’t tell this guy about the earthquake that happened a couple years ago and created a loud boom heard all over the county.

Donegal, how are you today?

That was one hell of a storm. How did you fair? I haven't seen any news reports of damage or power outages.

Flying from CFN to DUB. Is 1hr layover in DUB enough time to board connection to USA?

A flight from Donegal CFN leaves at 14:30, lands in Dublin at 15:30. Operated by emerald airlines/Aer Lingus.
Flight to USA is at 16:45. And there is US Pre-clearance whatever that is.
Odds I make this flight to USA? It is the only way I can tour ulster on our upcoming roadtrip to Ireland. It is probably also worth mentioning this would be a Saturday and I will have a checked bag.
The Donegal Airport has two of these quick flights a day and they land in the same terminal (2) at DUB I would be flying out of to go to USA. I just have never connected in DUB before, much less with checked luggage. Thanks in advance

a wee bit of library nostalgia

I made this print cause I used to love looking at all the return dates stamped in the front of library books. Used to imagine all the people who had borrowed the book before me, and searched for specific dates like my birthday or my friends birthdays. I know I can't have been the only one!

Chimney sweep needed any recommendations

Like the title says I need a chimney sweep, more specifically for the flue of a stove. If able to also service a stove that'd be great.

Do yous have any recommendations for me?
