Advice on what to do with defective g14 (GA402NU

Hey guys so I gave up on the initial g14 I thought I got on a deal a 2023 white g14 with Ryzen 7 7735hs and Rtx 4050 for around 350 total after shipping and clearing, turns out it was actually too good to be true.

It was listed as for parts due to it not having a ssd and bootlooping, which the seller said the unit was fine they got it 2nd hand was told they needed ram and that would make it operational so they bought ram and tried but they aren’t technical so they didn’t try installing a ssd and os, I was being optimistic that they were really just not technical savvy and got it. After getting it immediately realized a problem it was hitting 90-100 c just in bios and after talking to seller was told the fans were replaced and saw where the heatsink was removed prior to me getting so I assumed it just need a repaste and I’d be good to go, ordered ptm7950 and putty, repasted and still no dice.

got a refund for it and was told to keep the unit, but I saw a working black anime matrix model with Ryzen 9 7940hs + rtx 4060 from a reseller with a 1 year warranty only issue no charger so I ordered it, and it’s fine working amazing, I just used the charger I got with the defective one and swapped over the stick of ram to have 32 gb and my 1 tb ssd,

Issue I’m having now is what to do with the old defective one I was contemplating switching the batteries as the newly purchased one battery health is 83 while the defective one is at 93 but I don’t think it’s worth it , I’ll be docked when doing anything extensive and I have a anker powerbank to help when I’m traveling altho so the 83% is enough since on battery I use it on Linux with heavy power efficiency for best battery life and that gives me 5-6 hours without charge.

I was going to try and sell it back as parts for anyone who wants to try and repair it or needs parts as everything else is good aside from whatever is wrong with the board, I think it salvageable seeing as it boots into windows after a bios flash and able to go to browser and light browsing for like 10-15 minutes before shutting down and looping figure needs some board level work , but I have no repair places where I live in Jamaica to repair it and don’t have the resources or funds to sink into it either, or I would and give it to my GF so trying to sell it but issue now is unable to make a Payoneer account as I keep having issues and eBay has no other payout methods so eBay is off the board.

So what are your thoughts what should I do with the defective machine? What do you think is the issue and if I can repair it how? Does anyone know of a platform I can sell it on as parts internally? Does anyone want to take it off my hands ?

Any advice would be grateful

System bootlooping idk what’s wrong

Been trying to get this machine working got it, from eBay was listed as just needed SSD and additional Ram, got it and realized was overheating simply in bios would spike to like 90c-100 c almost immediately.

Fast forward a couple days I repasted with PTM7950, and new thermal putty thought yeah this will definitely fix the issue and I’ll be all set now, but nope, at first I was able to get into windows, I had to flash the bios first and once done it booted fine from my ssd, temps held at around 70c idle (which I still think is too high ) but seemed stable no shut downs nothing for about 15-20 mins, I was installing drivers and all was going well until random shut down again, and then it just starts looping all over again.

I tried reinstalling windows but as soon as I get to the windows installation it shutdown and loops, I’m at a complete loss, I was able to run memtest86 and memory is fine so that not the problem, I reinstalled windows fresh from a different laptop and transferred the ssd, same problems, I really think it’s salvageable but maybe there’s something I’m not aware of and it’s just a lost cause.

And before stay saying carry it to a shop, I did try that route but locally they aren’t that great I did try before repasting myself, they used regular thermal paste that was budget paste and thermal pads that were too thick,

I just want some help if anyone has experienced this with this model before or similar it’s the 2023 model GA402NU, Ryzen 7 7735hs with RTX 4050.

Also side note not sure if this means anything but when I did boot to windows and was installing drivers, nivida drivers wouldn’t pick up the GPU but it reads fine in bios not sure it that’s due to some issues with it shutting down as I read about that somewhere saying the pc might disable the gpu for safety reason

Help troubshooting please

Hey guys, so just got the ptm7950 and the thermal putty,so before as soon as power on it used to spike to 90-100+ degrees and start bootlooping, so now I have the thermal putty and PTM 7950 freshly installed, I flashed bios and booted successfully into windows no crashing or anything I was leaving it for a sec to see it it spikes or shuts down, ghelper reads around 70c -80c while installing drivers but after installing drivers and running ghelper changing to 60 hz and eco mode it shut down and started looping again back to the rig swoosh continuously, so I’m at a loss idk what else to do from here any suggestions, once the bios is flashed it load back into windows fine works for a few minutes ramp up then process starts again

A lil update, been playing around with it having it cycle on off for some time for PTM7950 and nice been able to get it to stay on long enough to install drivers and al that but still having shutdowns after sometime, before shutdowns happened like 3-5 mins in now once it’s cooled shutdowns are like after 15-20 mins, so far it’s been more stable with cpu boost off and set to eco in ghelper, I limited the cpu watts as well to 25w

Still working on getting my G14 working

Hey guys so I’m still working on reviving this machine the first photo is how I see all the heat sinks in guides the fans and heatsink are one assembly, but mines is not one piece, not sure if that’s is due to the previous owner replacing fans or whatever but I’ve been having overheating issues where it boot loops, hitting 100c in bios and once boots it hits thermal limit and loops, so is the the key to my problem? I’m just spit balling here now but are the fans supposed to be separate ? And can I like do anything about it, the person I bought it from said the fans were replaced.

Help please, idk what to do

Hey guys so I bought this Asus rog Zephyrus g14 and been trying to repair it with no luck, pc boots to bios fine reads all hardware but temps ramp up quickly to 100c and when try to boot to windows it thermals spikes to thermal
Limit and it boot loops , I’ve tried repasting with regular thermal
Paste until PTM pads get her but wanted to get it to boot to run diagnostics and atleast do some light use so was trying HY510

Guys I need some help/ advice

So I’ve been working on getting this G14 up and running for last 2 days, so back story, so bought it from eBay, only faults were to be needed an ssd

After getting laptop was informed the fans replaced, when I got it realized heat sink tamper screw was broken, checked paste and saw it was more or less dried ,

Laptop boots into bios fine, all hardware reads, but temp hit 90-100c almost instantly and when trying to boot into windows it would over heat hit its thermal limit and reboot

I ordered PTM7950, and thermal putty, but untill then decided to repaste with HY510 thermal compound I had on hand to atleast boot into windows and light use , but I can’t get past windows recovery start up , as it keeps looping

I’m at a loss as I changed the old thermal putty that was hanging on for dear life for some.05 mm thermal pads on the mosfets and vrms, and repasted with the HY510, on boot thermals are better the start off at like 80 c then ramp up to 100c just in bios and I was able to get to the setup for windows 11 as I had a fresh install, but wasn’t able to complete due to missing WiFi drivers so I completed the install on another computer and installed but it tries to boot then starts recovery and then boot loops.

I’m at a loss, the temps still spike and I know HY510 isn’t as thermal conductive and efficient with transferring heat but I thought atleast would be able to boot and keep temps stable enough to get into windows and try a undervolt

There’s not really any repair shops I can go to I try going to a shop, but they had no idea what’s wrong either, I got a refund from the seller seeing as it wasn’t as advertised but I still want to try recovering the machine

Update on previous post(overheating and boot looping)

Okay so update on prior post, got this machine today, in amazing condition, bought off eBay for around 300 usd after shipping locally here in 🇯🇲, when bought was told that they got it 2nd hand and was told needed ram, they bought ram but after trying to boot it kept boot looping, I initially thought was just them not being too technical as after probing them they said they never installed and SSD / OS, after getting it I tried adding my ssd with a fresh install of windows but realized pc booted , rog swoosh came up and keyboard came on, then windows recovery started, then immediately powered off and started over the loop, so I tried booting to bios to see what’s wrong, as I have hiren boot cd and some other tools but as soon as started running them started looping back from ventoy screen , so I booted back to bios see what’s going on and realized temps hitting 101c in just idle on bios, so definitely overheating and after checking in with you guys advised to check paste and to no surprise thermal paste on gpu dried up and cpu LM not on the die, so I’m going to repaste

Here’s my dilemma, locally there’s no place where I can get LM paste or PTM, so I’m thinking of using some HY510 thermal paste (I can get from a friend who did a pc build) and undervolt , to atleast have the laptop functional while I order and wait for PTM 7950/ LM paste, that way I can do diagnostics tests and use for day to day

Also thought on LM paste vs PTM for the long term, I’ll probably have this machine for some years , I’ll mainly use for web dev, media streaming, studying and some 1080p gaming medium/low settings with dlss(Apex, Destiny 2, Where Winds meet, a few AAA titles, indies and emulation) will I have to worry about repasting if I get LM and how would temps look LM vs PTM vs thermal paste

Trying to work on this laptop got it and it’s boot looping, seeing where the temps running crazy hot going to try and repaste, aside from that everything seems fine keyboard powers on, all hardware reads just boot loops , goes to rog swoosh then windows repair then loops,
