Weirdly affirming moment at the dementia unit I work at
I work as a CNA (nursing assistant) in a lockdown facility for elderly dementia patients. A lot of them are very disoriented and often insist they need to go home to their kids/ spouse/ parents/ etc. This means a lot of the time the women will cling to any man because they think everyone is their husband. I'm not out as trans yet but have started presenting differently as much as I can. I recently cut my hair short and stopped wearing makeup, as well as binding when I can.
Anyways, I had the most weirdly affirming moment at work last night. One of my patients mistook me for her deceased husband 💀 and just clung onto me all night. Like I literally had a hard time finishing my work because she was following me around all night.
I mean definitely a weird way to know that I pass at least a little but hey a win is a win I guess.
