Am I cooked?

I’m planning to transfer into Mays Business School. The application opens in January, but if I’m still taking required courses in spring, my application will be on hold until spring grades are posted.

Since admissions are rolling, I’m worried that students who finish all requirements by December will be reviewed first and may take spots before my application is considered.

I could finish all required courses by December, but that would mean taking a gap semester.

Is finishing early and taking a gap semester actually worth it for Mays, or am I overthinking how rolling admissions work? Has anyone here gone through this?

Should I take a gap semester in the spring to help my chances of transferring?

I’m currently at community college and planning to apply as a transfer to Texas A&M (hopefully Finance/Mays).

I spoke with an advisor who told me to submit my application as soon as it opens in January. The problem is that if I stay on my current schedule, I’ll still be taking some required courses in the spring semester. She said my application would be put on hold until my spring grades are received.

What worries me is that transfer admissions are rolling. My understanding is that applicants who already have all their required coursework completed by December can be reviewed immediately, while my application would sit on hold until spring grades come out. By then, some seats may already be filled.

I think I could potentially rearrange my schedule and finish all required coursework by the end of the fall semester. However, that would likely leave me with a gap semester before transferring.

My questions are:

* Would a gap semester hurt my transfer application?
* Is finishing all requirements by December worth it if it means I can be reviewed earlier?
* Has anyone transferred to A&M/Mays after having their application held for spring grades?
* Do they reserve spots for applicants who are still completing spring coursework, or are you at a disadvantage compared to students who are review-ready in January?

For context, I have a strong GPA, leadership experience, internships, and extracurricular involvement. I’m trying to figure out whether finishing early and taking a gap semester would meaningfully improve my chances, or if I’m overthinking this.

Any advice from current or former A&M transfer students would be appreciated. Thanks!
