I was invited to share one of my recent Instagram posts here including a new behind the scenes production still: Sometimes I hear people say “oh she should have stayed with Cal. He was a fine guy for that era.” Really? Was he a fine guy? I think Cal was used to getting only the best and he wanted Rose to parade around like another treasure. He never loved her. He was attracted by the idea of owning her like a fine piece of jewelry. As Rose wrote in her note:”Darling, now you can keep us both locked in your safe.” Rose’s life would have been terror with him. She would have never felt safe. Never knowing when she might receive the next blow, never knowing what would anger his possessive mind next. There would have been no room to breathe. A golden cage forever. For me personally there is no scenario in which Rose should have stayed with Cal. Ever. Rose freed herself from the restraints of the society she was forced to live in. She became a strong, independent woman who overcame tragedy and loss and lived her life the way she saw fit. She made her dreams reality. She made it count. I think Rose put it best when she said:”I’d rather be his whore than your wife.” #titanic #titanic1997 #titanicmovie #titanicscene #rosedewittbukater #katewinslet #jackandrose #shipofdreams #jamescameronstitanic

When I went to see the Titanic dresses I brought my own jump dress that I made 7 years ago to meet the original. What a full circle moment. I also brought my autographed picture of Paule Drissi who was head beader on set and made all the embroidery on the jump dress. She was a dear friend of mine.
