Not sure what to do next.
Hi all. Just curious to see if anyone else has similar symptoms and has had success.
In early Nov 25, i woke up one morning and seemed to have to use the restroom for a bowel movement many times that day. Not normal for me - usually thats alway been fine. Nothing was really happening, but the sensation was there. If anything, there might have been very small amounts.
Didnt think much of it for a few days but by the end of the week i had even felt some pain the perineum and penis, but still not the main symptom. At this point i noticed i was having urine hesitancy. So, feeling like i need led constant bowel movements with nothing, but not urine frequency but hesitancy. However, there was microscopic blood in my urine sample, but no infection identified with my primary doc.
Because of the trace blood, they referred me to a urologist. Prostate checked out ok, not enlarged. No infection, and this time no blood. Checked PSA’s. No cancer.
He recommended a “pelvic floor PT” - which i signed up for and have been going weekly to. The same basic exercises ive seen posted here and on youtube were given to me and ive done those religiously. Not sure ive felt like theyve done much - she did identify an issue with the obturator internus, and the relief i get when i visit is from working out th knots in the glutes along with some dry needling.
The symptoms im dealing with are basically a deep pain in the anus, perineum and penis more secondarily. I have urine hesitancy not frequency. Even if i have my bladder full, its almost impossible for me to start a stream. However, after a small bowel movements, even trapped gas, it seems to then be fine. The bowels are a differenr matter - 24/7 i feel like theres a pain in the anus that increases with each bowel movement. I did develop some hemorrhoids along the way thats ive tried to manage with sitz baths and such.
It hurts to sit down at all. The pain is constant, 24/7 but in degrees. Always better when i first wak up and gradually gets worse throughout the day. Sleep has become a problem. Some nights i can only manage 2-3 hours at max. I havent had a full bowel movement in months - more like small amounts many times a day. Im almost a prisoner in the house to the bathroom. Its terrible. Ive cut out all of the junk, increased fiber intake, drink water, cut sugars out. Ive lost about 20 lbs with these changes.
Im going back to my primary tomorrow, and asking about gabapentin possibly? I have booked an appt with the gastro, and will be switching physical therapists in late June. I like my PT but she isnt qualified for internal work and helped me find someone who could take the treatments further. Has anyone had similar symptoms to these and can offer advice? What questions would you be also asking your primary for some sort of pain relief? Flexiril perhaps?
Thanks all - this really sucks. Ive lost my quality of life completely. I can barely food shop. The bowel or urine movements or sensations are terrible. I cant be out too long. The shower or baths are the only time i can get relief but thats not sustainable. 8 months in and im not sure im making any progress.
