Let’s talk about edges, baby.

I feel like there is lots of discussion on things like centering, cornering, dimples, scratches and other more obvious defects. Something that I find hard as a newer collector is edges.

I know to look out for whitening, waviness and chipping. Those are easy to catch. I struggle with edges that are very common on foil, chrome or glossy cards where there is no whitening but under light the reflection isn’t uniform.

I did my best to capture this on camera and show some photos through a loup. Again the color is uniform(the camera shows one with a purple hue but that’s just the camera). But there is also slight imperfections that will create different reflections from the light.

If I compare these to PSA 10s online, similar shine can be seen. Obviously I don’t have close ups only these cards but the look similar to the cards I have under similar lighting/filming conditions. So I imaging there are slight imperfections as well.

How do you guys handle edges? I don’t think PSA grades them too harshly but where do you draw the line?

Thanks fam.

Slight lifting on a back edge enough to take this out of 10 range?

I got an etched in glass out of a bowman blaster. The card looks fantastic in all grading aspects except for this one back corner. You really have to look close but it’s just slightly irregular and lifts away from the corner. This also creates a slight waviness at that one spot along the back edge. Is this enough to kick it out of 10 territory? Even on the back of the card?
