Super Mario RPG and Mario And Luigi Brothership are on Sale. But which one is worth seeking out?

I have never really played the original RPG, but I heard the remake has some good things about it. I rented Brothership once and liked it, but not sure if the challenge will be more difficult or not. I do like a challenge, but not great difficulty. So which one is worth it?
