I recently learned about the death of Vinco, Kavinsky. It’s been almost 20 years that I’ve been carrying around this memory that I’ve shared with very few people. I thought some of you might find it interesting.

Some of you will probably call me a liar. Unfortunately, I no longer have any proof of any of this (the MacBook I had back then, which contained a few photos, was stolen before I could back it up).

I was lucky enough to be friends with the brother of one of the members of Ed Banger. One night, this friend called me and asked me to meet him at a restaurant in Paris. It was late, the restaurant was on the other side of the city, it was freezing cold, and I was on my scooter. But I was young and still up for last-minute adventures.

I arrived at the restaurant and found myself sitting with the entire Ed Banger crew. I knew all of them as a fan. The funny thing was that they all came up to me one by one, said hello, and introduced themselves incredibly humbly. Obviously, I was laughing to myself internally.

Anyway, we ate, and I pretended I was completely comfortable. I remember mostly talking with Fafi and my friend. I realized that everyone was at this restaurant before heading to the launch party for DJ Mehdi’s Pocket Piano at Nouveau Casino. We finished eating and headed to the venue. Mehdi himself came out to welcome the whole group. He did a double take when he saw me, because obviously I had no business being there, but he let me in after my friend explained who I was.

Long story short: I ended up backstage with all these people, including Guy-Man and Kavinsky. I don’t remember Guy-Man speaking at all that night, actually. He seemed really lost in his own world. I remember everyone going out into the main room at some point, although the memory is a bit blurry. I do remember that Guy-Man went completely unnoticed, while Sebastian and Kavinsky were taking pictures with people in the crowd.

Kavinsky eventually got fed up and suggested we go back to his place, which was just a couple of blocks away. His girlfriend at the time was there, along with Sebastian, my friend, and a few other people I didn’t know.

As for Vinco, I remember him as an absolutely lovely guy, really funny, and generally pretty hyper. I spent part of the evening watching stupid YouTube videos with him. At some point, he told me he had filmed the entire tour he did with Daft Punk in 2007 (just a year earlier at that point). There was ONE THING he absolutely wanted to show me.

At one point during the tour, in the US, either Thomas or Guy-Man (I can’t remember which one) lost his wallet, and it caused a massive mess for the trip because it contained some really important documents (obviously). And what absolutely KILLED Kavinsky was that he had filmed the EXACT moment the wallet fell out of one of the Daft Punk guys’ pockets.

Obviously, he only noticed this tiny detail later, while going through the footage after the tour. He kept showing me that moment over and over again, in slow motion. I have to admit, it really was fucking funny.

I remember getting home super late that night, and it was absolutely freezing outside. But I was happy to have met this guy, Vincent. A real gem.

I never saw him again. Finding out about his death really hit me.

Je le sais bien par avance que c'est vraiment une décision propre à la tolérance au risque de chacun. Mais je serai quand même curieux d'avoir vos avis, ça coute rien mettons.

Je dois renouveler mon hypothèque fin août 2026 et j'hésite entre deux options proposées par Desjardins.

Voici ma situation :

• Solde hypothécaire actuel : 470k$
• Amortissement restant : 20 ans
• Propriété : plex indivise (donc malheureusement limité à Desjardins)
• Revenus familiaux stables

Les deux options qui m'intéressent :

Option 1 : Variable réduit 5 ans

• Taux : 3,75 %
• Taux préférentiel Desjardins actuel : 4,45 %
• Rabais garanti : -0,70 % pendant 5 ans
• Paiement mensuel fixe (il n'augmente qu'en cas de très forte hausse atteignant le taux déclencheur)
• Possibilité de convertir en fixe, mais je perdrais le rabais

Option 2 : Fixe 3 ans

• Taux : 4,09 %
• Paiement fixe pendant 3 ans

Mon raisonnement :

• Le variable me donne un avantage immédiat de 0,34 %.
• Le rabais de -0,70 % me semble intéressant.
• Comme les paiements restent fixes, je ne suis pas exposé à une hausse mensuelle sauf scénario extrême.
• Si je fais le remboursement anticipé, mon solde descendrait, ce qui réduit encore le risque (C'est assez probable que ça se fasse)é

D'un autre côté :

• Le fixe m'offre une tranquillité totale pendant 3 ans.
• Je ne veux pas sous-estimer le risque d'une remontée des taux.

Et est-ce que mon raisonnement sur le variable vous semble trop optimiste ?

Je prévois construire moi-même une terrasse/patio dans ma cour arrière à Montréal afin d'économiser sur les coûts de main-d'œuvre. Je suis assez à l'aise avec les travaux manuels, mais je préférerais faire concevoir le projet par un professionnel avant de commencer.

Mon idée serait de payer une entreprise, un technologue ou un designer pour :

• prendre les mesures,
• proposer un design,
• produire les plans techniques et structuraux,
• fournir idéalement une liste de matériaux.

Ensuite, je réaliserais moi-même la construction.

Est-ce que certains d'entre vous ont déjà procédé de cette façon ?

Si oui :

• Combien avez-vous payé pour la conception seulement ?
• Avez-vous des entreprises ou des technologues à recommander dans la région de Montréal ?

Je viens de faire détruire mon garage et sa dalle de béton et d'installer un drain français dans notre cour arrière à Montréal.

J'aimerais installer du pavé alvéolé pour stationner notre auto sur une partie de la cour.

Quelques questions:
- Est-ce que c'est possible de le faire soit même sans expérience ? J'aime bien faire les choses moi même pour apprendre (et économiser bien sûr)
- Si oui, je suis preneur de vos expériences ou ressources (j'ai déjà fait un peu mes devoirs sur le côté théorique)
- Sachant que j'ai le droit à une aide de 1600$ de la part de RenoPlex, c'est vraiment intéressant financièrement de le faire moi même ? Ou bien je ferai mieux de le faire faire car je ne vais pas économiser grand chose ?

Bref, je suis preneur de vos avis !
