Black Edition Ready to Drink Formula Update (US)

Hey all,

We have had a discussion on other threads regarding some changes that a few have noticed are coming to the Black Edition RTD line in the US. The conversation got a bit confusing so I wanted to gather some information and bring clarity to what is going on.

As a bit of background, we are in the process of relocating the production of RTDs, both original and Black Edition, to North America. We are doing this for a few reasons. First being sustainability, as we will not have to ship them from Germany to the US, second, it will be more cost effective, and third, it allows us to update the original BE RTD to have a more distinctly American version.

This North American BE RTD recipe has been updated specifically for North American manufacturing. But while these will have a slightly different taste and texture, the core ingredient categories are the same — plant proteins, fibers, oils, flaxseed, coconut milk, vitamins, and minerals. However, there have been some changes.

- The North American version uses high oleic sunflower oil, whereas the original version uses rapeseed (canola) oil. These oils have a comparable fatty acid profile, but sunflower oil is more widely and sustainably sourced in North America.

- The North American recipe will include brown rice as a protein source in addition to pea and faba bean protein, as we feel it improves the taste and texture. It also compliments legume-based proteins very well, and is already used in our Black Edition Powder.

- On that topic, we have also upgraded our pea protein source to provide a creamier texture. as well as an upgraded version of stevia to help create a balanced flavor.

- MCT source has been changed to coconut milk powder which now provides the MCTs. This ingredient has always been in the recipe, but by increasing the amount of it, we were able to simplify the formula while still providing MCTs. Quick Note:  The FDA in the US has reclassified ‘key allergens’ to not include coconut, so you will not see that called out as an allergen on the BE RTD packaging. However, coconut is still an ingredient, so BE RTD would not be suitable for those with a coconut allergy.

- Total Carbohydrates reduced slightly, between 1-2g per serving depending on the flavor.

- Sugar reduction: decreased from 6g to 4g, with a reduction of added sugars to 3g as opposed to 4g.

- Very very slight change to sodium as well as fats depending on the flavor.

- The flavoring was also updated to work well with our new manufacturing setup in North America. These are very minor tweaks but again, may affect the taste slightly.

- Lastly, you will notice that the calories on the BE RTD now read 390 instead of the usual 400. To explain this a bit, there are always slight variances in batches when it comes to calorie count, which can be due to many different things, such as processing, supply etc, so each test of the amount of calories will provide a slightly different result. Over time the calorie count has averaged more towards 390 rather than 400, thus we felt it necessary to update the packaging to reflect this. Again this is an average - it does not mean that we have intentionally removed 10 calories, and 10 calories is generally within the acceptable range of variance.

When will this all be happening?

If you have been to a Costco in the US, or seen posts like this on Reddit, you will have noticed that the new formula is available now in the Black Edition Chocolate RTD via Costco, (EDIT: some stores may still have the previous formula so be sure to look for 390 vs 400 calories on the box!). The North American Chocolate formula is currently only available via Costco - however it will be available via eComm soon. Dates for the changes below!

Chocolate (Costco) - Available now
Strawberry Banana - End of July/Early August
Vanilla - October
Chocolate (eComm) - October
Chocolate Peanut Butter - November
Cookies & Cream - November
Iced Coffee - December

Please note, dates are approximate and subject to change.

I pulled attention to the Strawberry Banana BE RTD, as it is actually ahead of the curve. Starting this week, if you order this product from our site, you may receive either the previous 400 calorie version, or the updated 390 calorie version. This is our typical way of implementing a change like this, so nothing out of the ordinary, but once the remaining stock of the 400 calorie version is worked through, the 390 calorie/ North American version will become standard. This process will be repeated for all flavors during the respective transition timeline.

A quick note on the original RTD (white bottle), this will also be moving production to North America next year, 2027, and will be having an update as well. I do not have any info on what changes will be made as of yet, but it is something that I am looking into and we will update you separately on that in the coming months.

Lastly, if anything in my previous comments before this post contradicts this - please disregard. A lot of my comments have something like “waiting for the team to get back to me” - so consider this the collective outcome of those statements. I apologize if things got confusing, as I was trying my best to understand exactly what was going on, so info relayed was at times contradictory.

The team has been working hard behind the scenes to bring production of the BE RTD to North America, and we think this reformulation will only make the product and experience better!! Any Q’s or concerns, drop ‘em below 😊

Complete Nutrition Bar - Allergen Update (UK & US) - US Bar Subscribers Acknowledgement Via Email Required

Hey everyone, me again.

We are making a few updates to our Complete Nutrition Bars to further improve the quality and experience, and with this comes some updates on potential allergens that we wanted to relay to you all. Changes will depend on flavor and region, and are broken down below.

UK:

Dark Chocolate Raspberry, Chocolate Fudge Brownie & Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough

  • We’ve added Lysine, an amino acid, to support the protein quality while delivering a better taste and eating experience.
  • Updated packaging, will have a more matte finish, the goal here is to give them a more premium look and feel. Recyclable through front-of-store recycling points.
  • No changes to existing allergens

Peanut Caramel & Chocolate Caramel

  • Updated packaging as outlined above. Recyclable through front-of-store recycling points.
  • No changes to existing allergens

US:

Dark Chocolate Raspberry, Chocolate Fudge Brownie & Chocolate Cookie Dough

  • Updated packaging as outlined above.
  • Addition of Lysine as outlined above.
  • These flavors already contain soy and wheat.

Chocolate Caramel

  • Will contain soy - we’re moving from a sunflower lecithin to a soy lecithin in the coating of the bars. This is change driven by the manufacturer of our bars and is already present in our other flavors.
  • Still contains wheat
  • Addition of Lysine as outlined above
  • Updated packaging as outlined above

Peanut Caramel

  • Will contain soy as outlined above
  • Will contain sesame - this is due to a new flavoring being used which improves the taste of the bar
  • Still contains wheat and peanuts
  • Addition of Lysine as outlined above
  • Updated packaging as outlined above.

What Happens Next?

As per the headline, we are doing things a bit differently for this change. US customers will receive an email asking you to acknowledge that the Chocolate Caramel and Peanut Caramel flavors will contain new allergens. Acknowledging these changes is required to continue receiving the bars. This is a safety measure implemented due to the addition of two potential allergens, as we do not want someone to miss our communications on the changes being made, and consume a product containing allergens that they are not aware of. I broke down the process a bit more below.

  • If you fill out the consent form to acknowledge the update, the bars will not be removed from your subscription
  • If you do not respond before August 20th, the bars will be removed from your subscription
  • If your subscription order contains more than one product, you will continue to receive the order as usual, minus the bars.
  • If removing the bars takes the order underneath the free delivery threshold, we will waive the delivery fee on future subscription orders.
  • Should you not consent to the changes or not reply to the email, you will be able to re-add bars to your subscription at any time through the account area.

If you are in the UK, no action is required from you at this point. The changes listed above for the US bars will be coming to the UK bars, but not until towards the end of the year. We will contact everyone with more details closer to that time.

Dates of Change - In Sequential Order

UK

  • Chocolate Fudge Brownie - Early August
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough - Early August
  • Dark Chocolate Raspberry - Mid August
  • Chocolate Caramel - Mid August
  • Peanut Caramel - Mid September

US

  • Peanut Caramel - August 21st
  • Chocolate Caramel - August 21st
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough - Late August
  • Dark Chocolate Raspberry - Late August
  • Chocolate Fudge Brownie - Late August

Please keep in mind that these dates are approximate and subject to change.

We hope you all will like these updates, as we think it takes an already great product to the next level ✨ As always, any questions drop ‘em below!!

Edit: updated language for clarity

Customer Experience Mega-thread

Hey everyone,

There have been a lot of posts regarding our Customer Experience Team, so we wanted to provide everyone with a quick update.

Firstly, we want to apologize. It is absolutely frustrating to reach out to us and feel as if you are not getting the response you deserve. The team has been doing their best and we do appreciate the patience that you have all had, as you are absolutely entitled to feel that frustration and let us know what you’re feeling.

Over the past few weeks, we’ve experienced a perfect storm of record contact volumes alongside a number of technical issues, including account login errors, a bug affecting our Refer-a-Friend program, etc. While each issue on its own would have been manageable, together they’ve created a significant backlog for our Customer Experience team. This backlog is currently stretching into the 2 week mark. As stated, the team is working very hard to get through this backlog, but it is taking some time. In light of this I wanted to assure everyone of a few things.

  1. You are not being ignored - Being ignored would mean that we read your message, and simply chose not to reply or closed it and moved on. This is not the case. I know some of you have had experiences with our AI that promise to connect you to a human as soon as possible, but with the backlog, “connecting you to a human” is taking much longer than it normally would. When this happens, you’re just being added to the queue to be contacted by one of our representatives, and that queue is long. As others have indicated, once someone has gotten in touch, they are very quick to resolve the issue.
  2. We are working through the backlog - The team is answering contacts in the order received, while being sure to give each one the attention that is needed.
  3. Be aware of separate orders - Sometimes if an order is missing an item, it is arriving in two separate packages. Orders like this are split due to weight. This tends to happen with RTD products so it is always worth double checking.

Lastly, I would like to make everyone aware of and reiterate rule 5 on this sub - We can’t resolve individual product, delivery or quality issues here. There are a few reasons why this is the case.

  1. The community team is not CX trained - Myself, Mark, Tim, and Hope, cannot grab tickets in the CX inbox, and it creates confusion on the back end.
  2. We want this subreddit to be for discussion about Huel - this is not a customer service inbox, and while we care about everyone’s experience and want to be sure that it is as positive as possible, we want to keep this sub a place to discuss Huel and have great discussion about the product.
  3. A lot of issues are extremely specific, and require investigation, and logging of any issues so that we can look into them should they occur.

With that said, this amount of contacts and wait time is unprecedented at Huel, and I want to assure everyone that this is not the norm, and will not be a new normal. Customer experience is one of the pillars of the company, and we are working hard to get it back to the level you have all come to expect from us. On that note, I have been able to get some issues resolved for folks when they have posted about what is going on, and I will continue to do my best to help people here temporarily with the help of u/markhuel. I will also be redirecting all new posts regarding this to this post so we can keep everything in the same place. This is not only to keep the sub clean as per rule 4, but will also ensure that we don't miss someone needing help due to a random comment on one of many posts. Again, we’re sorry that it has been frustrating and we do appreciate your patience.

Newsletter Q3 2026 July - End of September

Hey everyone, hope you all are having a great summer so far. It’s already July, and time for our third newsletter of the year! We’ve had a lot going on this year so far, and we are entering into a quieter time for the next few months on the back end of quite a few launches which were mentioned in our Q2 Newsletter. With that said, this one will be rather more succinct than the first two, but let's get into it!

ROUNDUP

- Launches, launches, launches (brady bunch voice). We’ve added a plethora of new products and flavors since our last newsletter. Including Blueberry Black Edition RTD, Pineapple & Coconut Black Edition RTD, Mango Lite RTD, Vanilla Matcha Lite RTD, and 2 versions of Ramen, Lite and Black Edition.

- Special Shout-out for Ramen Lite and Black Edition (UK and EU). This product was a labor of love for u/timhuel, and, has come out the gate to a strong start. We’ve enjoyed getting everyone's feedback and have a lot to look forward to with this product line.

- (US) We introduced 2 new flavors to the Daily Greens Ready to Drink line-up, those being Strawberry Lemon and Grapefruit! With these new flavors, the base formula of the DG RTD was also adjusted based on customer feedback. You can read up more on those changes here.

- (US) We launched our very first vending machine in the US at 3 airports! Those being LAX, MSP (Minneapolis), and XNA (Bentonville). There are a few of these in the UK (we have a great list here on our FAQ) so it’s exciting to see this format come to the US finally. You can see some images here if you’re curious.

THINGS COMING UP-

We really had a busy Q2 with plenty of launches, so this quarter is looking a touch more quiet. But still plenty to look forward to!

- (Global) We’re looking ahead, and are hoping to get another AMA off the ground, hopefully with James McMaster, our CEO, yet again. Keep an eye out for updates on that!

- (Global) We continue our Pot Delist and shift to Meal Packs, you can read up on that at the link embedded, but some approximate dates have been shifted, so I listed them here as well:

UK
- Hoisin ‘Duck’ Noodles - Late July
- Korean BBQ Noodles - Late August

EU (Poland, Sweden, Czechia, Denmark and anyone using the EU store.)

- Hoisin ‘Duck’ Noodles - Late July
- Mixed Boxes - Late August

EU (Germany)
- Mixed Boxes - End of July

___________________________________________________________________________________

- (UK/EU) Ramen is officially available in the UK and EU on the 7th of July! We will also have selection boxes. For the EU, there is a chance that they will go live a few days after the main launch as they are taking a little longer to produce than normal, but rest assured we have not forgotten about you 😊

- (UK/US) With all the launches in the Ready to Drink categories, we are going to be introducing all new flavors in Selection Boxes in the UK and US in the near future. Stay tuned for updates on that!

- (US) As I alluded to in the previous Newsletter, we have a really exciting launch with a big retailer in the US! As of August 1st, you will be able to find Huel in a Walmart near you! We’ve been working hard to expand our presence in retail in the US market, so we can get Huel into as many hands as possible, and this is the next step on that journey.

- (US) On the back of a lot of launches for late spring/early summer, we have one more for you coming to the US, and while I’m going to remain tight lipped for now, I do really think you’re gonna go “ape” over it.

And that’s it! A quick summer Newsletter for you all. Again we’ve had a busy quarter, but we still have a lot to look forward to for the rest of the year! As always I’m here if you have any questions, so feel free to shout!

Thanks!
