Updated Claude storage/memory map: what's local, what's cloud, and what changes Oct 6

Lots of changes over the last few months. Hard to keep track of. Here are all 21 Anthropic help articles, doc pages and release notes on the migration combined in one visualization.

Next milestone is October 6th. If you haven't seen it already, all new sessions in the Claude app on Pro/Max will be cloud only. No more local option. Tasks you already started locally stay local. Claude Code is still the local option.

Team/Enterprise admins still decide location ATM, no specific date yet.

What term do you use with Claude regularly but you later found out is totally made up and no one else would understand?

Every time I'm done building a plan Claude or I will say it's ready to "drain". I've used this term with other devs and they have no idea what I'm talking about. I thought it was a normal thing to say for a long time. I asked Claude and it said it thinks we made it up at some point. We've been using it since 2025. 🤦‍♂️

"AI Expert" != Gets S**t Done

I can't tell you the number of times I've listened to an "expert" I worked with who could comment endlessly on a topic but never got any work done. There is no difference with devs leveraging AI and it drives me crazy. The ones who actually built stuff others use, continue to do so after adopting even poor AI practices.

The annoyance for me this week was attending a ClaudeAI training the AI evangelist/expert just went on and on about the amazing things they'd done to develop their elaborate harness only to show us their stinking TEST project. They haven't built a single app with real users with Claude. Ever. I messaged him later to see if I could help show some of my recent projects next week and he told me they "wouldn't help anyone". Good lord. What a goober.

Kimi subscriptions opened back up again!

Just thought I'd check and registration was wide open. Let's go! Hopefully for a while.

EDIT: Well damn! Several have reported still being waitlisted. Not sure what let me through. I've been on the waitlist for a while and never got a notice. Sorry if you still can't get through.
