Good places to backpack/overnight camp in nc?

Hey I’m from hickory nc and love backpacking but don’t know of any amazing spots. Would love some recommendations. Anywhere in nc preferably mountains. Also looking for a good spot in Shenandoah or great Smokey mountains. Thank you!

Is this healthy hornwort?

I have some hornwort and most of it looks normal. You know the normal needles at the bottom, but there is one section with this green sort of stuff growing on it. Just wondering if anyone knows what this is and if it’s good for the tank.
