Advice on Air France Flights

In April of next year, I will be flying from JFK to CDG in Business class. I booked with points. However, I live in the Midwest and need to get a flight to NYC earlier that day.

Originally, I was going to get a cheap, early flight on a random airline to JFK first thing in the morning so we would have plenty of time in case of delays, etc. The issue here is that we would be hanging at the airport for over 6 hrs and I would have to leave the terminal area, grab luggage and go back through security again at JFK.

But then I realized for (not that many) more points, I can fly Air France from my Midwest city and they will just transfer my bags to the Paris flight and it will be easy.

My concern: the layover between landing at JFK and taking off for CDG is only 2.45 hours so if there are any delays, we might be in danger of missing the connection.

I’m leaning towards the earlier flight to just play it safe. Thoughts?

Am I arriving too early?

Wife and I are landing at 5:55am on the direct flight from JFK. We only have 4 days and we wanted to get in as much as we can on the first day. I’ve heard people say from the time that you land to the time you get to your hotel is about two hours with customs and everything else at the airport. Obviously I’m worried about jet lag but hopefully we can push through.

My other option is landing at 8 AM and I just think that would be too late by the time we got to the hotel and got going. Any advice or thoughts would be welcomed and appreciated. Thank you.
