Electric Cars in New Estates

I’ve recently moved into a new house in a new estate. Engineers and planners are now doing away with driveways in quite a lot of new builds. I get it, more space for more houses etc.

What I’m wondering now is, if there’s a push on for more electric cars, where can these electric chargers go? I’ve got a designated parking space. It’s about 15m from my door. I’ve got an isolation switch on the outside of my wall for an electric port to be installed.

Obviously could go to a garage but it takes ages and costs a fortune to charge.

I see neighbours of mine have it done, and they just drape the cable from their door to their designated spot across a path (about 5m). Surely this is a tripping hazard? Would they be held liable? I can only assume so.

I want to change my car out for an electric car. But don’t want to drag a cable across a path for however many metres. Have I got options? What if someone parks in my designated spot and I cannot access it?

Any advice appreciated. I’m sure it’s been answered before. I just wanted a few more questions answered legally and practically.

TIA.
