Hi all,

I'm about to finalize the purchase of a 2023 i4 M50. Very exciting, but I'm wondering about charging options. Installing a NEMA 14-50 outlet or charging station is not really an option for me - very high cost due to excessively long distance from our main panel to the garage. However, a NEMA 6-20 outlet could be installed more easily from a nearby sub panel.

For those of you in a similar situation, what cable are you using to charge? I'm thinking of using the cable that came with our Volvo plug-in hybrid. We've been slow charging it at a normal 120 V outlet, but it also came with a 6-20 plug option for fast(er) charging which we can swap onto the cable. It seems like this cable should work for the i4 as both cars use the J1772 plug. Any potential issues I should be aware of if I go with this plan?

I am also looking to get a second cable as a backup. It looks like there "may" be a NEMA 6-20 adapter for the BMW universal flexible fast charger, but it "may" only be for newer 2.0 versions of the charger (2024 models or newer?? It's hard to tell from BMW's website which actually says the adapter is not compatible with 2023 i4's - is this true?).

I'm also ok going with a 3rd party charging cable option but the vast majority of those seem to be for 14-50 outlets. The main criteria for anything 3rd party is that it needs to be from a safe, reputable brand.

TL/DR: What cable should I get to charge my 2023 i4 at a NEMA 6-20 outlet?

Hi all,

I am in need of a car and the i4 is at the top of my list. Unfortunately, the available inventory for certified used cars near me is very limited. I test drove a 2023 eDrive40 last week. 29k miles, priced at $36k.

I enjoyed the ride, but had a few reservations: I'd prefer lower mileage, the battery health was at 92% which seems low(?) considering the car is only a few years old, and the car had some scrapes on the front fender and passenger door - the dealer said they would repair them before the sale but it makes me wonder about the former owner and how well they took care of the car.

I was wondering how important folks think it is to go with a certified preowned rather than buying from a private seller (my initial thought is that certified is safer).

Also, is that battery health in the normal range for a 2023?

Finally, has anyone had any luck buying used from an out of state dealer, and have any insight to share?
