Lease Return

I’m scheduled to turn my car in tomorrow (not due till the 28th). I’ve never had a leased vehicle before and hoping that I don’t get extra charged for anything and just unfamiliar with the process. I had 15k miles a year in the lease and at 3 years are at 21k total. Had the car detailed yesterday and there’s prob zero imperfections that I can see. Just want to know other experiences. Located in Southern California.

New eDrive40 in Marina Bay Blue

Picked up my new eDrive40 two weeks ago after ordering it in February. It has seen ~1200km so far, mostly highway and Autobahn driving using DAPP set to ~150kph where possible currently showing 16,8 kWh/100km.

The Marina Bay Blue individual paint was pricey but absolutely worth it to me, the pictures do not do that paint justice. It looks so much more vibrant in reality.

Black interior with blue contrast stitching and carbon package works really well for me as well.

Absolutely love it so far.

2026 eDrive - I love it so far. The tech on this thing is amazing, and has quite the learning curve and I'm an "experienced" (read: old) IT Director. Source? I'm coming from a 2012 Honda Accord LX 🤣

I thought it was weird that the OEM "black all weather floor mats" that were an add on option are still packaged up in the trunk - not something that a BMW dealer would not install. Professor Google told me those are original equipment. I guess recommendation is to hang those up in a closet for three years and get something else. Looking forward to hanging with the community.

Unlock with app- correct profile

When I use my app to unlock my 2025 I4 it defaults to the guest profile. Very annoying. Using my physical key- no problem. Any ideas?

Day 94 and just hit 10,004km

Just wanted to share my 10,000th kilometre in my i4. I bought it 2nd hand i4 eDrive 40 MSport Japanese imported to New Zealand, with 2707km on the 2nd of April 2026 and it just rolled into 10,004 tonight. My first Bimmer, my first EV, my first lease, my first time obsessed with a car. Loving it, and I suspect I will find it hard to part with at the end of the 3 year term. Let me know that I’m not alone in my infatuation.

My BMW App Won’t Update Vehicle Status or Start Remote Climate (i4 eDrive40)

Hey everyone,
I’m hoping someone here has run into this before.
I have a BMW i4 eDrive40 and the My BMW app has stopped updating the vehicle status. The app is showing the last vehicle update from earlier today, and no matter how many times I refresh, it doesn’t pull any new data.
When I try to start Remote Climate, I get the following error: (attached photo)
A few details:
Battery is at 54%
Car is parked
Nobody is inside the vehicle
Vehicle is locked
The app hasn’t received a status update from the car for several hours
Remote Climate won’t start
Not sure if Lock/Unlock commands are working because the car isn’t updating at all

Has anyone experienced this on an i4? If so, what ended up fixing it?
Thank you

Has anyone received the 07/2026 Remote Software Upgrade for iDrive 8.5 yet?

If you have, I’d love to hear what you’ve noticed.

Did BMW provide any release notes or changelog? Have you found any improvements, bug fixes, or new features?

If you can share a screenshot of the update notes, that would be awesome.

Thanks in advance!

Does ABRP app show only newer Tesla stations that are compatible with the NACS adapter for the i4? Can’t get a straight answer from the app.

I’m using ABRP to plan a trip through some remote areas and it recommends Tesla charging stops. That’s fine, I know that the adapter works on the newer Tesla stations. What I can’t confirm is whether the stops ABRP recommends are compatible with the NACS adapter, or whether they are older Tesla stations, which may or may not work with the adapter. I would hope that, since the app knows what kind of car I’m driving, it would only recommend compatible stations. I would like to confirm though, since there appear to be a couple of stretches on the trip with limited charging options. Thanks

Finally the software updated after locking me out of My BMW App, this is what I did

TL;DR turned on Valet mode, then switched back and discovered software updated after locking

It’s been so frustrating that ever since the software was updated I was unable to access my BMW app to do the update despite trying to do reset. And then suddenly this afternoon when I had a meeting and switch the car into valet mode for parking to discover when I got back home the software had finally updated during that time maybe this is the way for those who still are having problems with updating the software.

2nd hand 2024 BMW i4 eDrive 40 G26 MSport Japanese Import to New Zealand owned since April 2026, total 9000km

I guess it was my 4th of July present.

From battery glitch to this…

Since yesterday my iPhone won’t connect to the car. The BMW just stays on “Searching…” and never finds the phone.

My iPhone can see the BMW, but the car won’t pick it up. At one point it even asked for a Bluetooth password, which I’ve never seen before.

Here’s what I’ve tried so far: I’ve restarted iDrive a few times, deleted and re-added Bluetooth devices where I could, restarted my iPhone, checked for BMW software updates (none available), and tried searching for devices multiple times. Still no luck.

For anyone who’s dealt with this, I’m wondering if this is a common iDrive/Bluetooth issue, if there’s some kind of reset or fix I’m missing, whether this usually means a trip to the dealer, and if it could be a hardware problem like the Bluetooth or telematics module, or if it’s usually software-related. This isn’t the first time I’ve had connection issues with this car, so I’m starting to wonder if something else might be going on. Any advice would be appreciated.

Clean phone holder solution for the 2026 i4

This is by far the cleanest and most affordable phone mount solution I’ve found for the 2026 i4.

I found this holder on Amazon, and I’m honestly surprised by how well it works. The original kit didn’t include a fast wireless charger, but it’s so well designed that it fits most MagSafe chargers perfectly. I added a Qi2/MagSafe fast wireless charger separately, and it turned out even better than I expected.

The first photos show everything that came with the mount. The wireless charger was purchased separately. The last photo shows an alternative that someone suggested—a cable running all the way across the center console. I personally prefer keeping the interior as clean and factory-looking as possible.

What do you think?

Is this normal?

Recorded whilst preconditioning the car. Doesn’t sound right but wondering if yours is the same? Very audible even with the bonnet/hood closed.

Lease deals...

Hi everyone? Who's got the sweetest lease deals in the DMV area?

BMW Alexandria are quoting $650/month for an xDrive 40 with $4500 down which is a hard no for me.

Assorted questions on Activation Point, FM Preset Access, EcoPro Individual....

Still getting to know my 2025 i4 xdrive and diving into all the settings. I’ve searched the sub and a few forums but haven't found definitive answers to a few specific questions:

  1. Changing the Activation Point default view: Currently, when I hit an activation point, the central display automatically shows the wide Panorama view (see the first image ). Honestly, I don't find it super useful. I would much prefer it to pull up the overhead/surround 3D view or the standard clear front view instead (like the normal parking assist screen- see the second image). Is there a way to change the default view for activation points?
  2. Direct FM Radio Presets: Is there any way to skip directly to a specific preset FM station without having to do multiple clicks/scrolls via the steering wheel or multiple steps with dashboard widgets? i.e. a "one-touch" solution?
  3. EcoPro Individual vs. Comfort: If I set up EcoPro Individual so that the EcoPro lights, heating, and A/C are all disabled, and set both the damping and steering to "Comfort," am I effectively just driving in Comfort mode? Or is there still background wizardry happening in to conserve battery power?

BMW i4 e40 Reichweite

“Dog mode” and how to keep 2026 i4 running with passenger, remove auto shut off.

Hello!

Is there a way to

  1. Use dog mode in the i4 or similar setting that keeps the temperature controlled?
  2. If I have a passenger in my car, my car still shuts off when I (driver) gets out. Sometimes I leave someone in the car and want the climate to remain. Is this possible? Without having close the door, and then have the passenger turn it back on each time manually. My Tesla stayed on with someone in the car just by tapping the screen if I left key or phone in it. Everytime the doors open in the i4 the climate control stops, and the car shuts off.
  3. How to do I access favorites in the i4? I find this OS to be entirely too many screens and processes to do anything tbh. It’s so overdone and annoying. Comparing it to the amazing Tesla OS. Not here to pick a fight, love the car, that’s why I didn’t bet another Tesla. But I’m really having a major learning curve, and I’m not an old person, and I have worked in tech 20y.

Thanks!

Replaced battery, now can’t unlock.

2025 eDrive40. Got the replace battery warning and replaced it immediately, before finding out it was not legit. Worked fine for a few days but now the car won’t unlock or recognize keys. Any ideas? Can unlock with the physical key but nothing comes on. Dealership isn’t an option.

'23 i4 with 17,000 miles; idrive bugs since I got it, now it has a coolant leak?!

I got my CPO '23 i4 edrive 35 two months ago, car's been running like a champ and since I commute to work, I've quickly racked up a lot of miles on it.

Because I spend so much time in the car, I've noticed a few idrive bugs that I haven't had in my other two BMWs (running idrive 7); of course my idrive has been updated to the latest version whenever it prompts me and restarting idrive fixes the problems but they soon reappear. This is what I've experienced so far:

  1. Having the navigation enabled in idrive and showing the map in the driver's dashboard (whether it be Waze or the BMW navigation) will sometimes not show the highlighted route, or has caused idrive to crash altogether causing the system to restart by itself.

  2. sometimes pressing the buttons on the idrive screen using the controller wouldnt activate the feature.

  3. idrive every so often loses sync with the BMW app, and I have to toggle All Privacy services on and off to get it to work again (such ass checking the app for My Trips).

  4. today the idrive screen completely died, and stayed like that after a power cycle, and faded back to life after about 10 minutes of driving.

my car is a CPO, I brought it to the Dealer's attention, the BMW Genius rep here said that he's seen glitches like this before and that they would have to wipe the software and reinstall it, and that the glitches will get worse unless I brought it in.

Well I was ignoring the glitches until I had sufficient time to bring the car in, but today when the screen malfunctioned, I brought it in. They're servicing it now, but also made me aware that there's a coolant leak, which they're fixing as well.

A coolant leak at 17,000 miles?! I thought these cars being electric were next to bullet proof. I mean, I get that coolant still runs in hoses and there can be a leak, but I've read this forum and the reddit i4 forum and havent really found much of anything about the idrive glitches I've been experiencing, and not much about the coolant leak.

I mean, the car is mine and its a CPO, so I still have piece of mind for a couple of years, but I put a lot of miles on this car commuting to and from work, around 3k miles a day.

The car itself has been tremendously stable and fun to drive. I love the car, and plan to keep it for the next 7-10 years, and with my current use, I'll be likely approaching 350,000 miles in 10 years.

My question is, should I invest in a warranty? I know that generally that is discouraged given that the statistics indicate most of the time you're better off paying as things break than getting a warranty, but now I'm sorta concerned that there's a coolant leak this early on. I dont even know if I can warranty a car given how many miles I'm planning on putting on it.

here's a video of the glitches:

https://imgur.com/a/this-is-how-normally-should-behave-jRvKWuY

as usual, any and all advice is appreciated.
