Sleep trained baby still has long wakes at night, I want to give up

I’m very much struggling. After a bout of hand foot mouth we had to retrain. He was mostly sleeping through the night sometimes 1-2 wakes. However now we get one night of sleeping through the night followed by several days of 1-2 wakes that last a long time.

11 month old schedule as follows
7:30/7:45 am wake up
Nap 1-2 (or two 30 min naps at 11:30 and 3:30)
Sleep at 8.

He wakes at 2 every single night and cries on and off for 15-45 mins (I do not check in which is killing me).

Then he will wake at 5 am for 30 mins.

Then sleep till 7/7:30.

He averages about 12.5 hours of sleep.

I feel like maybe I need to be waking him earlier? But then the days I do we end up putting him to bed early causes he’s having the worst day. It’s been a week of these weird wakes. It used to be that he would wake and after a few mins of crying would go back to sleep. Yday was torture he Literallt just cried from 2-4 am on and off falling asleep and waking up and I ended up crying just feeling bad because I have no idea what I’m doing.

He used to be terrible at co sleeping but I’m wondering if I should just do it now because clearly we aren’t sleeping well this way either. It takes me forever to fall asleep when he wakes up so I’m hustling wide awake for hours.

11 month old goes to bed at 8:30 pm. He used to wake at 7:30 am. First nap was 11-11:30 second nap was 3:30-4. So that’s 3.5/4/4.5

Avg sleep is 12.5 hours.

Nowadays he’s waking at 5 am or 6 am and won’t sleep for 2 hours and then it ruins the rest of the day.

How do I approach this?
That’s his only wake right now he’s on day 5 of retraining with Ferber (we don’t need to do check-ins anymore, at 5 am tho he’ll cry for like forever and I have to rock and rock or just play)

Hi!

11 month old has been on 3.5/3.5/4ish since 7 months. After night weaning he started sleeping well with this schedule. His daily total sleep is about 12.5 hours.

Since 10 months he’s been really fighting the second nap. I used to make him do it by making him sleep 15 mins in the car etc etc.

he used to only do 30 mins naps but since dropping the second nap he extends his first nap to 1-1.5 hours.

1 nap schedule is 4/6.5

However he’s struggling with the long wake windows and is waking up sooo often with this 1 nap schedule. His total awake time is only 10 hours now but he is really struggling to extend his first wake windows and that results in such a long second window.

Should I go back to doing the micro second nap to add in total awake time? It just pushes his bedtime so late.

He used to fall asleep independently at bedtime and all wakes but got hand foot and mouth and now he’s back to being walked. I retrained him, or I tried, but he’s really not taking to it well. First two nights he woke up only 3-4 times. Yday he was up every hour. I’m so lost.
