Honestly, how am I doing? Seeking your feedback

Hello uiuc reddit!

I've only been a mod for a semester, but I’ve done the absolute best I can. During this time, I centered the "I" for the logo, added new flairs, and personally handled moving the many sublease posts to a separate subreddit to keep our main feed clean. I’ve also tried to share some uplifting posts for those among us who have been struggling through the semester.

I know I’ve been more active than the other mods, mostly because I’m a current student, but I’m graduating soon and want your honest feedback. As a finance major, I’m a big believer in looking at the results—I only want to keep this role if the community actually thinks I’ve had a positive impact this semester.

So, do you want me to stay on, or should I leave?

By Thursday at 11:59pm, if the upvotes are positive, I’ll stay. If the downvotes outweigh the upvotes, I’ll step back into a traditional mod role and only take action when it's absolutely needed. I’ve tried to be as helpful as possible and I’m sorry if I’ve ever been too active.

Either way, I’ve really enjoyed moderating the uiuc subreddit and I hope you all have had a wonderful semester.

All my best,

u/Beneficial_Physics68

Edit: If you prefer to share your thoughts privately, feel free to DM me. Your username will remain completely confidential. I’m looking for honest feedback on how I can do better, and I know not everyone wants to post their opinion publicly.

Hello UIUC Reddit,

There has been an influx of mental health posts and reports lately. As someone who has struggled with their mental health throughout college and long before, I can only tell you one thing: it does get better.

Beyond the cloudy days here in the Champaign-Urbana area, when there is sun, it really helps to walk on the Quad. Maybe even grab your favorite coffee, soda, or whatever you drink (boba is my personal favorite).

Grades didn't come back the way you wanted? Big deal. Come back with a vengeance next semester. School is only a small percentage of the life you are supposed to live. If you ever feel like life is too much for you to bear, think of all the people who would miss you, or the people you will never impact by not being here.

Hello everyone,

In light of the recent ICE activity on campus, we have seen a significant increase in posts regarding their presence and locations.

While I commend everyone for looking out for one another and keeping the student body informed, the volume of these posts has led to some concerns regarding the sub's overall focus. To balance community safety with the need for a functional subreddit, we are implementing the following changes effective immediately:

  • Manual Review: All posts related to ICE activity will now be held for manual review by the moderator team before they appear publicly.
  • Content Focus: We ask that you keep these posts focused on "Know Your Rights" information, campus resources, and objective updates. Please strive to keep the tone neutral and focused on student safety.
  • Request for Resources: If anyone is interested in creating a consolidated, "master" post outlining UIUC-specific policies or legal resources regarding ICE presence, please do so or reach out to the mods. We would be happy to pin a well-sourced resource thread.

Our goal is to ensure that critical information remains visible without the feed becoming overwhelmed. Thank you for your cooperation and for looking out for your fellow Illini.
