Baking bread every week until I finish my PhD week 88

this loaf is 100% ap flour, aside from the starter which has a bit of whole wheat flour. you can see the contrast with last weeks bread which had much less gluten. this one sprung well above the edge of the pan and the top is very domey

3" knife rule

The verbiage used is "at least three inches" for prohibited blades. Would it be a huge problem if I brought my pocket knife (folding, non-assisted, non-automatic) with a blade of exactly 3 inches? I don't expect to carry it around because it's "at least three inches" but would a room inspector care enough to measure it?

Good place for a gender neutral haircut that isn't overly expensive?

I have been going to Great Clips and i think i only get a decent looking haircut about 45% of the time. The last cut i got there looks like a bad toupeè, and i can't do it anymore. I am female, but have a male style cut so i am looking for a place that is not judgemental. I have a medical device implanted on the side of my head, but it can be buzzed right over and doesn't cause any issues.

I was recommended H2O in downtown Urbana, but their haircuts are $45 and i cannot pay that every 3-4 weeks. It also includes shampooing, conditioning, and other services i don't need. Plus they aren't open on weekends or Mondays and don't appear to be wheelchair accessible - which would be a bonus.

Any recommendations for something better than Great Clips but not nearly $50 for a decent fade?

Hi everyone! I’m leaving UIUC soon and have quite a bit of Chinese tea and herbal drinks that I’d rather not take with me.

🌼 Chrysanthemum tea
❤️ Dried red date (jujube) slices
🍒 Dried hawthorn slices
Everything is in good condition. If you’re interested, feel free to DM me! I’ll sell them at a reasonable price. 😊

Electric Scooter

Hey all,

I’m an incoming freshman, and I need some sort of quick transportation for classes that are 10 mins apart as I don’t want to be reliant on the bus then.

What’s the take on electric scooters, and where do you store them? Alternatively, does UIUC have E scooters for rent, and how much do they cost/is there a pass?

Thank you!

WHERE are the femboys?

I have been here for over ONE year, and while I LOVE the GREAT state of Illinois, it has come to my attention that my expectations were BELIED.

I have been attending Computer Science courses for my minor and have not yet found a SINGLE femboy besides myself. WHERE are they? Did Reddit lie to me? I enter my lecture halls, my study groups, my RSOs, and see NOTHING but men in PATAGONIA vests (which I've no issue with!) memorizing LeetCode solutions.

The University of Illinois has 60,848 STUDENTS. And yet I've come across not a SINGLE one? I've only THREE years left. I suppose I've no one to blame but myself. Nothing good comes easily.

I humbly ask any upstanding netizens that hear my plight for any advice. Also my DMs are open

Parking on campus is such a scam

Like first they get rid of all the meters and force you to use the app which has an extra fee on every transaction even if I just want to park for 15 minutes, and then today I find out that you still have to pay for the meters on holidays?? The buses aren’t running today so driving is literally the only way for me to get to campus now… I get that you should charge for parking to reduce traffic and incentivize people to use transit but I LITERALLY CANT BECAUSE IT ISNT RUNNING TODAY 🥀🥀

Parking permit

Hello guys I’m on here asking about if the $900 parking permit for 1 year is worth it? I’m someone who’s going to be commuting to the university about 20 minutes away this upcoming year for classes. So I was wondering if the $900 price tag is genuinely worth it or if I can find some sort of free parking else where? All of my classes are located on the main quad this year as well. Just wanting some tips!! Thank you!!

No friends as a junior, am I cooked?

Relied on making friends through my (engineering) RSOs, but I’m seeing that it’s not a great solution. But I’ve only got two years left at college. Am I genuinely cooked? Are there ways to discover like-minded people im oblivious to?

Where to get a haircut on campus?

My first time staying on campus over the summer and was looking for a stylist for a hair cut. For reference I’m a guy and my hair is decent length (almost to the shoulder) and it’s wavy/slightly curly and I mainly just get my layers fixed and my bangs trimmed every time i go for a hair cut, any places to check out or independent stylists?

Finally, some rain around campus 🌧️

The last few days have been absolutely brutal. It was soooooooo hot and humid that every time I walked outside, I’d come back drenched in sweat. Even a quick grocery run felt exhausting, and my head would start hurting from the heat.

Now it’s finally raining😮‍💨, and honestly… I’ll take this over the heat any day.

A Champaign County Fire Protection Dis... - WCIA 3 News

(Read the comments on the original post for more info)

TL;DR

A rural Illinois volunteer fire department is experiencing a staffing crisis after numerous firefighters resigned, saying their concerns were repeatedly dismissed by the Board of Trustees.

According to former firefighters, those concerns included operational readiness, training, safety, and allegations that the Fire Chief made sexually inappropriate comments towards female firefighters and racist remarks towards firefighters of color.

They also say that the Board has continued to support the Fire Chief despite being warned that firefighters intended to resign if their concerns remained unresolved.

How do I make a girl fall for me?

Should I take care of her pets, help her do her nails, cuddle with her while we watch a movie, take her out for dinner, play games together, bring her coffee, listen to her random stories, and remember the little things she tells me...

...or am I still supposed to tackle her?

Provided Storage in Dorms (Snyder)

I was planning on buying some drawers for under my bed, but then I went onto the uiuc dorms website and they said they provide a lot of furniture. They listed s bunch of things, “A double room has two beds, two desks, two chairs, two closets, two chests of drawers and two bookcases (mounted to the wall). Closets are typically 3 x 3'.” But in the 360 digital room tour there are two drawer sets and one bookshelf per side. Also, it says the chests are 30” tall but also that there is only 28” clearance on beds. So can anyone clarify if these are supplied exactly as they are in the photo or if it’s different?
Also kinda unrelated, did anyone add shelving to their closets with friction beams or anything for extra storage?
