Burping-24/7
Constant burping for 10+ months (PPIs/Gaviscon not helping) + history of gastritis & small hiatal hernia
Hi everyone,
I’ve been dealing with ongoing stomach and upper GI issues for a few years now, but things have significantly worsened over the last ~10 months.
A few years ago I had an endoscopy done which showed:
H. pylori negative gastritis
A small sliding hiatus hernia (consultant said it was clinically insignificant)
At the time, symptoms were more manageable, but recently things have changed quite a lot.
Current main issue:
For the past 10 months I’ve had relentless burping that I can’t seem to control.
It starts immediately when I wake up — even before I’ve sat up
I can literally wake up, reach for my phone on the bedside table, and I’ll already be burping
It continues on and off all day long
It doesn’t seem to matter if I eat or don’t eat
Happens even on an empty stomach and after just drinking water
Feels like it comes with an indigestion-type sensation
Things I’ve tried:
Gaviscon (no real effect)
PPIs (no real change either)
Pattern I’ve noticed:
It’s basically constant but fluctuates in intensity
Starts immediately on waking without any clear trigger
Feels almost automatic rather than food-related
I’m just trying to understand what could be driving this or if anyone has experienced something similar, especially with symptoms that aren’t responding to acid-reducing medication.
Any insight or similar experiences would really help
Not sure if this is even gastritis related anymore but it’s so frustrating to live like this.
