HELP Overheating Biocube 14?

So i thought everything was going great in my tank until I got a hygger digital thermometer, I put it in the tank to read 85 degrees… the room it is in is 71.

I originally had the hydor 50 watt heater in chamber 3 along with some ceramic bioballs like 4” above the pump. The heater though had its dial slightly out of the water so I was thinking maybe it was malfunctioning due to that, moved it to chamber 2 with my protein skimmer and fully submerged it. Gave it like 3-4 hour until 11 pm and the tank hadn’t moved a degree, the lights had been off since 7.

So unplugged the heater thinking it was probably just broken I’ll get a new one this morning. Wake up and the tank is reading 83.8 degrees. The lights essentially just turned on. So don’t think it’s that? The stock pump? Protein skimmer pump?

The fan in the light hood seems is working I feel cool air coming out of it.

Thoughts, tips, what needs to be replaced?

Thanks
Sean

Well pump and water heater sounds?

So I’ve been noticing my water heater making some new noises. Sounds like a thudding noise in my heater also my water pump sounds louder? Also noticing more pulsing in my water pressure. I have a well, a pressure tank, boiler. Am I crazy or is something wrong?

Thanks!

Filtration setup on biocube?

Just wanted everyone’s thoughts 3 weeks into my new 14 gallon biocube. Just put a skimmer into compartment 2 as per the instructions manual, have about 3/4 lbs of ceramic bioballs in chamber 1 hanging in a bag so they don’t touch the pump, and the heater is also in there. Good? Different ideas?

Thanks 😬🐟

New 14 gallon nano

Looking for suggestions and tips, haven’t had a saltwater tank in probably 20 years and got this 14 galling biocube as a gift that I’m super excited about.

Got rock, sand yesterday and got it started. Have an ro unit already at home so used that, Adding fluval cycle.

Anyhow have the rock about 2” from the glass and 2-3” from the surface. Any reason to not have the rock stacked that high?

So from what I’m reading, maybe a couple crabs and snails in a few weeks? Then fish a few weeks after that? Think a clown or 2 and a watchman goby ultimately? Any other fun ideas?

What corals are best/easiest in this tank? I’m thinking zoanthids, mushrooms? Pulsing xenia? Should I do an anemone. Thanks!!!
