1 month progress
so this is my 30L shrimp planted nanocube there is nothing special about it just couple of plants strand superfish LED light, no CO² and no fancy substrate just some good old black gravel but it holds strong, everything is growing nicely, colors are vibrant and the shrimp's are multiplying like crazy
2 Months progress
an before and after cutting picture of my 60L tank. it's very healthy and I'm currently running it with 100% reverse osmosis water but I can see that the chihiros B-Series is to small for it, probably going to upgraded soon to a chihiros wrgb II PRO but for now it's looking more and more good with each week
New 14 gallon nano
Looking for suggestions and tips, haven’t had a saltwater tank in probably 20 years and got this 14 galling biocube as a gift that I’m super excited about.
Got rock, sand yesterday and got it started. Have an ro unit already at home so used that, Adding fluval cycle.
Anyhow have the rock about 2” from the glass and 2-3” from the surface. Any reason to not have the rock stacked that high?
So from what I’m reading, maybe a couple crabs and snails in a few weeks? Then fish a few weeks after that? Think a clown or 2 and a watchman goby ultimately? Any other fun ideas?
What corals are best/easiest in this tank? I’m thinking zoanthids, mushrooms? Pulsing xenia? Should I do an anemone. Thanks!!!
Started from a cup now we here!
Beautiful female betta, the star of my new planted tank.
First Try on Aquascape - It’s so Addictive 😅
Here’s my first and finalized hadscape before start planting. Tank size is 40x20x30 cm. Substrate is aquasoil with driftwood and dragon stones. Any comments and feedbacks? Thank you 🙏
Critical lack of understanding
I was researching and researching and decided to get these from hygger. I understand in theory how they’re supposed to work, by creating a pull that forces water through the sponge and the exhaust air and water flor out the top. I cannot wrap my mind around how these things aren’t just aerators with extra steps? Like where does that suction force come from? If the air is supposed to force the water in the chamber into the sponge, how does it filter anything besides the very bottom of the sponge? When i sit and stare at it for several minutes, i swear the only current i see period is the bubbling. I can’t see anything being gently succed into it… just tank “dust” that has settled
Edit: thank you for the input. I understood in theory how they’re supposed to work, it just seemed like witchcraft in practice lol
Filter recommendations for smaller tanks (5-10 gallons)?
Im usually setting up Walstad tanks but now I’m looking to setup my first high tech smaller freshwater aquascape, prioritizing aesthetics. Any recommendations for any HOB, internal, or canister filters that would provide a cleaner look? If it’s canister I’d prefer it to be below $120 and if not then below $60. I know it’s hard to get aesthetics with a budget but I’d appreciate any recs!
How fucked am I? Emergency
Leaving for vacation in 2 hours. Was prepping my 10 gallon neo shrimp and killifish tank for a week of being unattended, when I accidentally bumped my auto feeder and dumped about 2 weeks worth of powdered food in the tank. I started siphoning out water immediately and only have about 30% left in the tank, but there is still SOOO MUCH food floating in there and all over the bottom.
I have to leave in 2 hours, I can't miss my flight. What should I do? Just refill and double dose with Prime and hope for the best, or cut my losses, dump the tank completely, and hope I can restart it in the future?
Need opinions on my first tank
Im planning to build a 20 gallon shallow community tank with celestial pearl danos, bloddy mary shrimp, anchor catfish, and sparkling gourami.
Will it work??
Give me some fishy ideas
For context this tank has been setup for 2 years. I’m 17 now and I’ve kept fish for roughly a little less than a decade. I’ve loved them since I was young. I used to have a 75 gallon with South American chiclids, then I did Africans, Now for the past 2 years because college is coming up I downgraded to a 20 gallon. I know the tank looks rough I just did a big trim up the plants and a water change😭. I wanted some suggestions to add more to the tank the only fish in here are 7 red neon blue eye rainbow fish, 1 peacock gudgeon, and 1 glow light tetra and neon tetra that my parents added trying to be sweet so I didn’t have the heart to give them back. Honestly the red neon blue eye are super shy even when they had a bunch of cover. So I wanted to get some suggestions on some additional fish. I was thinking of adding a couple of neocaridina shrimp blue dream as bottom feeders and to contrast the fish, but for fish wise maybe some unique strain of guppy, or a pair of aphyosemiun killifish. But honestly just want some suggestions on something unique for the tank. Appreciate all the help. less
10 gallon nano planted tank, advice welcomed!
I’m new to this whole thing and trying my very best to keep things natural! I have 5 neon tetras, 3 panda corys, and a mystery snail! I’d like to add a small colony of shrimp and a betta. My levels have been constant since cycling and adding in fish 2 weeks ago.
I’d love any advice and thoughts on aesthetics as well!
Currently battling those damn bladder snails that piggybacked off of a plant I purchased. Hopefully they’ll be gone someday!
And I do have issues with waste accumulation on my plant leaves.
5 gallon-ish planted tank: will it be too little for a neocaridina shrimp tank? (see description for more details)
I am concerned it will be a bit cramped and I want to add more plants in the left corner. I will be lowering the thermostat on my heater to try to slow their breeding (how low should I go?) but planning on getting 8 shrimp. Also, the tank was advertised as 20 litres but after checking its dimensions and accounting for glass thickness, maybe it’s closer to 17.5 litres (26 cm cube)
Mystery eggs??
What in the world are these? I have Pygmy Cory, Scarlet Badis, shrimp and mystery/nerite/ramshorn snails. Some kind of egg?
Question regarding increasing light power without spending much
Hi all,
I have recently set up a 1 foot cube nano tank.
Freshwater
Black Sand Inert Substrate
Sponge filter
Neo Helios XP 300 (16 watts)
Lava rocks, Driftwood
Anubias Barteri Var Nana (just around 7 leaves)
Java Fern
Java Fern Narrow leaves
Java Moss
Water Wisteria
Fertz: Seachem flourish comprehensive supplement
Conditioner: Seachem Prime
Water: RO water + Borewell water mixed
About to Add
Salvinia Minima
Pothos Gold (emersed)
(Planning to add in future
Taiwan Moss
Anubias Nana Long wavy
Ludwiga repens
Bucephalandra Brownie copper)
My question is. If i wanted to add CO2, and demanding plants, I know this light is not enough. But I just recently bought this 1 week ago. So can i add another Neo helios xp300 side by side. That will make it 32 watts in total? Would i get appropriate par values?
Attaching the current picture for reference. Cube is just 1 week old
Thank you
what would you do? :)
2.5 Gallon!
I'm going to put in a plant in the next week -- not sure which one...
Plan right now is plants and one nerite snail
Help brighten the tank

New tank!
Its a little 3.5 gallon and i plan to add some more plants but for now i just recycled plants from my bigger tank! Blue dream shrimpies are going to POP in here with the red rocks once its cycled!
Fluval spec 5 gallon
I have a few shrimp in here but I really want to add a fish (or fishes)🐡. Is it possible in a tank this size? I have a few ideas in mind but I want to make sure if I do put something in there it/they can live comfortably.
