Am I Being Cyberbullied or Harassed?

About a month ago, I was involved in a group project at university that ended very badly due to disorganization and internal conflicts, to the point where the group eventually fell apart. After that, I started spending more time with my partner — who also studies at the same university — doing everyday things together like going out, eating together, and spending time on campus.

Today, thanks to a friend who was part of that group, I found out something deeply concerning: several former group members had been secretly following us around for the past month, taking pictures of us without our consent, and sharing them in a WhatsApp group to mock us, spread rumors, and discuss ways to harm us socially and emotionally.

When I reviewed screenshots of the conversations, I also discovered that they had contacted my girlfriend’s ex-boyfriend — someone who previously subjected her to psychological abuse and remains obsessed with her — and shared personal information about where she studies, when she is alone, and other details, while continuing to defame us, use degrading nicknames, and actively try to damage our relationship.

The situation feels extremely serious, and I am considering filing a formal complaint with my department administration or university authorities in order to stop the harassment and defamation. I have screenshots, copies of the images that were shared, and a witness who can confirm everything. However, I’m worried that the university may not take the situation seriously enough, or that even if I report it, the people involved may continue harassing us.

  • How should I formally present this complaint?
  • What are the most important points I should emphasize?
  • Has anyone gone through something similar and could offer advice on how to proceed?
