I guess shoplifting is getting bad
Mainly related to Central Market (Austin, if you're curious). They used to offer brown paper bags for bread and pastries. I really appreciated that as they kept the fresh bread from going soft and cut down on plastic use.
I went into the store today to find it all replaced by clear plastic. Even the coffee bags now have clear windows on them. I can only assume its due to shoplifting, as if people were mislabeling the actual item they placed into the bag. If there is another reason for the change (e.g., cost of paper vs plastic bags), I'd be curious.
